Hello Everyone,

Firstly I am very very new & non-familiar to the world of Android.
I am from India.
To explore the features of Android, I purchased Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830.

Now that I started downloading Applications. It automatically installed in Phone Internal Memory or SD card. I was unaware of it.

But after certain applications, out of 190 MB of Phone's Memory, only 18 MB free remained & it gave me message of memory full not allowing to install applications & even incoming messages also stopped & I couldn't receive them.

There's option of moving all applications from SD card to Phone Memory, but the option of moving from Phone to SD card is always disabled for all applications installed in Phone Memory.

So I un-installed all the Applications installed in Phone Memory.
But this is not the solution I guess.
I want to install Applications to SD card.

Even I am totally unaware of the terms like Rooting & development etc.

So please guide me through this step by step in as simple language as possible (means non-technical language).

Help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Nikunj Shah.

Hi nikvshah and welcome to android forums, first of all what you can do is install an app called "App2sd" from google play. this app will move all the movable apps to sd card though it will not move 100% of the app it will give you good amount of memory to install more apps.

this kind of issues are very common to new android users but the more you will use your phone the more you will start loving it...

Welcome to androidforums,
Since you are not rooted, there is very little you can do about the extremely low ACE's internal memory.
The app2sd app mackinon has mentioned will be of very little help, although its all thats available for you. Since most of the apps require phone details access permissions, they are supposed to be installed in the internal memory and the apps that don't require these permissions can be easily installed in the sd card(these are the only ones you can move right now). But as you have seen the ACE has very low internal memory, hence that limits the number of apps(requiring phone space) you can install.

But if you really want to move ALL apps to the sd card, it is possible via rooting, you can use your sd card as internal memory and install as many apps that you want, but yes that will void your warranty, so its all upto your choics.

Hi,

I want to ask, how can i direct install my application and games to sd card?
because my phone storage only have 190mb, so i want to save my other download application or games to my sd card.

Read the above posts.
Most apps get installed in the phone memory, you will have to move them to sd card if its possible for the app to be moved there. There are apps like app2sd that'll automatically move the apps you install to sd card.(only those that can be moved)

After Reading this post i started exploring about moving apps to sd card...
ended up installing CM7.2 RC3 and also Partitioned my sd card with ext4 using CWM5
and installed S2E and right now i have only 5MB used internal memory..
The phone now uses 2GB of ext4 partition on my sd card as phone memory.
learned this trick from XDA...

You should try link2sd, its much more customised then s2e, there you can select which apps to move.

2gb partition!! you must be using alot of apps my friend :D
Could you tell me which sd card are you using right now?

I am currently using app2sd to see where my apps are currently stored and if they are in sd card i move to to phone which intern goes to the partition on the sd card.

i will try link2sd as well.

ya 2gb and still looking for more good apps to try out.. mostly root apps.

I have a 16GB scandisk class 4 sd card.. which gives about 11Mbps of read speed and 4Mbps of writing speed.. i found no issues with it..

S2E is only supported by CM7 based roms, is it the same case with link2sd?

Thanks Ayush,

for the clear guidance.

Let me tell you that mine is

Gingerbread.xxld3
2.3.6 Android version.

And I don't want to void my warranty.
May be after 1 year I can check this rooting thing out.

But I am confused about "Ryuinferno" post which states without root.
And what you stated is sort of hack.
Is that good? advisable? or is it a crime?

I am not sure & Unaware, so asking foolish questions. I don't understand all the conversations done later on.

I have 8GB sd memory card in my mobile.

I HAVE ANOTHER QUERY TOO..

MY mobile also keeps on hanging.
Sometimes some call comes, it hangs. Then I need to shut it down & again turn it on.
I open menu, it hangs for a while.
Its not working well.

Actually i think of warranty as a safety net while i am rooted, cause if by chance i screw up the phone i'll have the samsung people to blame for. :p
I can simply unroot the phone and flash the stock firmware before taking the phone to the service center, they'll never know it was rooted. :D

Don't get scared by the 'hack' term, it just means its a workaround the normal android protocols. Its not illegal in any way as you are not rooting it.
You can try it, but as in all softwares any mishandling might cause slight damage(very low chances :p). Go through the 'Force apps to sd card' thread in the sticky threads and you'll see the success and safety rate of the procedure. :D:D

The lag might be due to too many apps running in the background at one time, uninstall apps that you don't use and get a task killer to kill the apps unnecessarily running in the background. They take up lots of ram thereby slowing up the phone.

Hello all,
Im new to this site but will just give you some information that I have recieved from being in the O2/Tesco's phone shop after spending 1hr and half talking to customer care/techincal support team on their phone and other various people in relation to the Samsung Galaxy Ace and its memory, internally and externally.

Basicially With the Galaxy ace there is only so much internal memory on the phone..........once this is roughly down to about 20MB it give you a message (not enough memory) please delete blah blah blah. Now you would think that having a 2GB memory SD Card as standard inserted , your applications would automatically be transfered on the the SD card...................How wrong we all are. The techinal guy basically said that if we download apps the internal memory will be used and nothing else. The sd card however is for the storage of video's and camera pictures that we may use. And the odd application. There is no way of asking where the application is to be installed.........Phone or Sd Card.

Not that the technical guy has said this but the only way to get around this is to do the same as what people are doing to their Iphones (jailbreak). I on the other hand.....gave my handset back to tesco's today and decided to go for the Galaxy S2 which has an internal memory of 16GB.........unlike the Galaxy Ace at just a miserable 158 MB storage, 278 MB RAM.

Anyway hope this helps some of your questions.

Hi,
And welcome to the Galaxy Ace forum.
Overall your story is known to the users over here.
One small correction though: some of the apps can actually be moved to SD with stock rom (although part of them will always remain on internal storage). Whether this is possible or not, can be seen when opening settings, applications, app management; tick one app you want to look at. If it can be moved to SD, the small block with this text can be clicked.

Its for rooted devices only, you need to root your phone before using this.
The error depends upon what all you transfer to the sd card, if its just apps then when you remove the card, those apps installed on it will show as unavailable/not-installed as long as the card is out, but if you transfer dalvik cache then that might create a problem. Its better to switch off the phone, remove the card, do the data transfer you want, reinsert the card and switch back on, thats a safe way.

so glad i found this forum! my phone has been telling me for weeks that i have run out of internal storage space, i have deleted a few unused apps, keep deleting messages and caches but i still only have 19mb free. i do not have a silly number of downloaded apps and they are mostly on the sd card anyway. (2 weeks after i got the phone i wished i'd got a better one but there you go, i'm stuck with it for 2 years..)
i have tried to move some things to the sd card but the option is always disabled. i have read through this thread and thought i'd look up the app2sd app, and there are loads to choose from! how do i know which one to use?
