Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

I downloaded flash_image twice, and still get the same results.
Hmmmm....I would say that its not finding it on your sd card for some reason.
Just verifying here, it is extracted from zip right?
Umm..you are typing correctly.
Let me think about this some more, cuz I'm baffled. I read thru the Tacoroot method and it is similar to Capt's method.
Just 1 question, and I'm just wondering...you are doing this to be totally s-off?:)
Because if your phone is unlocked, s-on from the HTCdev method, you still can flash roms, kernels etc....

OK. So while I was running through it from Step 7 again to get pictures, NOW I'm getting rm failed for /data/data/recovery/log, No such file or directory after Step 9 [adb shell /data/local/tacoroot.sh --setup], but my EVO 4G still rebooted into the red exclamation.

wow dude, this is going over my head, but never fear cuz ocnbrze will check back and he knows his stuff and helped many, many more people with worse issues than yourself...don't give up chum:)
I'll lurk here just to see how its going to learn:)
No worries here at the AF!

Yes, and yes.

I know...I read through all of them, and felt that TacoRoot was to my liking, and wanted a challenge. LOL. I guess if ALL ELSE, I'll go through Version 1 of this guide, but I want to see if I can really do the TacoRoot method.

OK. So I'm trying it again from Step 6 now, and when I'm in Recovery with Vol Up + Vol Down + Pwr, I get the message E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command, but the Recovery Menu still pops up.

weird. the error pops up on your phone? what menu shows up on your recovery screen?

No, but I can try again from Step 6, and do the "undo" part after Step 9.

No, this is my only micro sdhc card (the one that came with the phone) :(

ok lets try this then:
1.copy the contents of your card
2.on your phone go into settings>sd card>>unmount sd card>erase sd card>remount sd card
3.transfer back you cards content back to the card.
4.try taco root again.

Yeah...I still get the same error on Step 12 :(

Maybe I should chalk this up as my phone is an anomaly? LOL.

...or maybe I'll try on a different computer.

well the are other methods you can try as well. maybe unlocking the phone and trying the captain's method might be the way to go.

Well, I'm happy to announce that after last night and this morning, I'm finally rooted with the Unofficial CyanogenMod9!!! :proud: I used the HTCdev//Captain Throwback methods after countless abysmal tries with the TacoRoot method. I wonder why it didn't work? Anyway, suffice to say, I was nervous when I got down to the this code again:
Code:
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image [ENTER]
chmod 755 /data/flash_image [ENTER]
/data/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img [ENTER]
But, it went off without a hitch!

Thank you you to all who gave me help, suggestions, and comments with the TacoRoot method. I really appreciated it!
