switching micro sd cards?

okay first off, sorry but i'm not so tech savvy so you'll probably get a bucket load of stupid questions from me.

but i just got a samsung galaxy proclaim, i think, from straighttalk about a month ago. and it came with a 2g micro sd card. but i keep alot of pictures on my phones because computers aren't always available. i have a sd card thats 8g that i got for my old phone.

my question is, how can i put the 8g card in without losing things on my phone? i figured i could just hook my phone up to the computer and copy all the folders that it has and then put the 8g card in the phone and paste them all in it then. does that even make sense?

also what exaclty is an android phone, i know i have one, but i'm sure what makes it an android? (and will i mess some android thing up trying to put a new sd card in? one that didn't come already in my phone??)

thanks for the time and patience, hope i made a little bit of sense!

Welcome to the forums!

Your thoughts about transferring your data from one sd card to the other via your computer would be the best options. So you're definitely tech savy enough. :)

As for what is an android? It's the operating system a phone is running. I've switched sd cards before from one android to another without issue so I think you'll be fine.

Have a good one!

thanks for the welcome!

i went ahead and copied everything. but about 144 items couldn't be transferred or whatver because they were too long? under Android>data>com.google.android.apps.books>files>accounts>'myemailaddress'>volumes>QSUZAAAAYAAJ>res
and another after volumes>3dwNAAAAQAAJ>res

and my old phone isn't an android. and the 8g sd card didn't even come with it. i just bought it was wal mart.

any idea what those files are? do i need them? can i get them?

thanks again!!

Did you install apps to your 2gb SD card? Data from apps could have been copied to your SD card if you chose to do so or if the app defaults to store data to your SD card. If you don't copy those over, the apps that look for that data will not be able to find it. Your apps might revert back to as if you never used them if you don't copy those files over.

You should be able to copy them to your computer and put them on your SD card.

i did and my computer said they couldn't be copied or transfered because the lines were too long. and i can't rename them. i went through my phone and so far everything works. i think it might be for the app that came on my phone for books. that app is still there, i'll try playing around with it. hopefully the sd just has a backup copy from the phone

It'll probably just recreate those files when you use that app.

Have a good one Wyoming! I'll see you around.
