Yet another reason not to use TEP. Such a ripoff. $150 deductible? Thanks, but no thanks.

That is why I would never have insurance from ANY carrier. High premiums and deductibles.

I recommend BestBuy Black Tie Protection. I think it is about $9 a month, but there is ZERO deductible and you could in theory break your phone and get a new one every week (when I worked at BestBuy Mobile we actually had a guy go through about 6 phones the first 2 months he had it). It takes about 3 days for your replacement phone, but well worth the wait for a new phone, never a refurb.

Logically, if the cost of using your "insurance" is half (or more) of what it would cost to buy out your contract (and get a brand new phone) then what's the point in paying for insurance?

In that case then don't get the insurance & if your phone breaks you buy out your contract to upgrade. You save yourself a monthly "insurance" fee.

For instance, right now, if I wanted to use my TEP It would be the $150 deductable with this change. For $150 I could buy out my contract and get a brand new Galaxy Nexus for 1 penny from an online retailer.

Sprint is not going to go out of business.

IOWA hit the nail. due to insurance scams and such, Asurion has to increase their costs. they also need to make a profit just like any other FOR PROFIT business.

its a pretty steep change for sure and a lot of knee jerk reactions will happen from this.

i can afford the monthly insurance and the deductible, however Armageddon makes a good point about when the investment becomes a waste of money, so some may have to weigh their options for sure.

Kind of makes me think I should start a phone insurance company lol.

This is a mix of insurance fraud and the rising popularity of smartphones. Android and iPhone sales are climbing at rather insane rates. So the rates from the days of $200-300 flip phones had to be adjusted.

In response to another user: Tier 4 would apply to the iPhone as well as tablets. iPhones are incredibly expensive at full retail. The 16 GB iPhone 4S is retailed at $649.99.

Today while trying to check for my back ordered claim, I stumbled across this

http://www.phoneclaim.com/doc_list/...ble-schedule-061712?tmpl=component&format=raw

It seems that Asurion has now raised the deductible for the EVO LTE and the Galaxy Nexus to $150!

I submitted my claim on Sunday night which would have been the 17th, and on this document it says that the pricing went into effect on the 17th

Somehow I managed to only pay $100.

Presuming this is true...why have we not received any kind of notice about this?
Exactly. →_→

I had this conversation with one of Sprint's Supervisor the other day. Not only that the deductible price has been increased, but the monthly payments as well.

I'm still mad @ Sprint for other stuff _ and now they just drop another bomb on us. The day Sprint stop giving us "unlimited" data is the day I terminate my service with them. And they can't charge you for early termination.. because they would be the one who forfeit their contract. ("Sprint is the only network with true unlimited data")

If I understand what you are saying correctly - this new TEP change would include iPhones, and customers wouldn't have to waste $ on AppleCare?

My Evo LTE got 1 crack on the screen that is kind of long. I heard they only cover if its only 1 inch or less which is not. My question is does TEP cover it without needing to pay the deductible? I also heard that if you dont have TEP, you can pay $35 and they will replace your phone which ends up being cheaper.
