Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

So what are you gonna do? Back to the Sexy Nexi?

jmar

Yup. Ran her today :)

Quite honestly, there is not really any other VZW phones that excite me. The constant carrier meddling (all US carriers apparently) lock down and cripple their devices. I just don't understand this. Are those import phones unlocked!? Seems to me the way to go if you want to tinker in your device is get an imported GSM device and just shove a carrier sim card in the thing and off you go. Hell, remember how the nexus was sold to us as a "Developer device" only to be told AFTER we where stuck with the devices that it was the GSM only version? Yeah, thats a knife in the back.

The Razr has been fast booted back to stock and I did a factory reset right on top of that. I would be taking it back today, but being up since 430 am and barely getting any sleep, I decided to just relax for a bit and possibly end up passing out

Yeah, I totally feel your need for sleep. I arise early every day. Get some rest.

Greetings, peeps!

I am working from home, recuperating from my neutering. To all those who told me it was not painful and just a bit of discomfort, well, you should know you suffer from selective amnesia.

lost-marbles-721521.jpg

That was me. :( Sorry you're having a tough time, Han. It really wasn't like that for me. Aside from the discomfort during the procedure, the pain wasn't really bad at all. Maybe it was the Xanax, who knows. Hope you feel better soon!

Sunday is Ryan's birthday AND Father's Day, so have a good one! :birthday:

Mine is November 9th. I'm an old fart; I'll be 41.

And thanks for the warning, ajdroidx. I'm not too worried because Verizon said I could return it if I didn't like it. I'll run the crap out of it before I make any decisions, don't worry.

Beware the razr! I am returning mine due to pretty much the same issues with my device but inside. It cycles like the nexus and thus, drains that massive battery while it sleeps.

Its a shame too, because its a solid device otherwise

You should have Verizon delete your customer info and start over like you are signing up for the first the time. There could be some numbers that are associated with your account that cause your phone to cycle. I think it was something with IMEI or ICCID or MEID, something like that? It happened to someone I know. No matter what phone they gave the same thing happened every time.

Unless you just live in a spot that makes your phone cycle?

Bite your tongue! I'm hitting the big 5-0 August 3rd and I respectfully disagree. You're only as "old" as you FEEL... regardless of your AGE. I may be an old fart to a lot of young folks, but I feel a lot younger on the inside than I am on the outside!

Happy Birthday Ryan and Happy Fathers Day to all the fellow Daddies out there!

:)

I read something in the Razr Maxx board about other people having this issue as well, http://androidforums.com/motorola-d...ta-connection-drops-all-time-anyone-else.html

There is also a thread there about wifi issues.

My nexus is sitting here happy, i have not seen it search for a signal in the house as it seems to be content with the router and network extender.

List Updated to include you guys.

Chief, you must have started relatively young (the fatherhood thing, I mean) to already have one booted out of the house before you're 50. One down, one to go. Nice work! JK:D

Morning everyone! Long, tiring day at the park, but so much fun. That Intimidator ride is just so amazing. :D
And a very happy Father's Day to all the guys on here! :)
Glad you had fun! Intimidator is an AMAZING ride! Did you black out coming out of that first drop?

Please. I'm 42 and I'm younger than most 30 year olds that I know. Age is just a number, and not acting your age is the secret to not feeling your age.

Here, here, Chief! I second...and third...and fourth that!

Thank you, but we had Kid #1 at age 29. Considering the trend these days of having kids when you're 10 and going on government....
oh no, I am NOT getting started on that rant
...., I think that was a relatively OLD age to start a family. But we'll see if I hear from him today. At all. That'll tell me volumes about what he thinks of his "moving up in life". :)

Birds have wings so they can fly, not sit in the nest for life eating what mom and dad bring back to them. We decided we have at least as much sense as birds and, uh, shook the nest a little.

EDIT: Have you guys checked out ROBIN? It looks positively astonishing! The video is cool: I have GOT to try this app!

EDIT EDIT: I look forward to hearing other reviews here about Robin. I've already e-mailed the developer and I didn't have it 30 minutes! Seems that whenever I ask it seemingly innocuous questions it doesn't understand me... and then when I say something like "restaurants near Manchester, Tennessee" it points me a restaurant in Manchester, New Hampshire that it must be particularly partial to. It's got a LOT of potential, but definitely needs some work while still in beta :)

Seems promising. What's up with the guy in the video? He's extremely hyper! He was so excited to talk he couldn't keep up with himself! LOL

I started even younger - 23 when I started. Looking forward to having both of them out of the house while I'm still young enough to enjoy my house staying clean for more than 30 minutes.

Just had another family member defect to The Dark Side (a/k/a fruit phone). I'm outnumbered 3 to 1.

Wife was sick of doing battery pulls on the BlackBerry (boy, do I remember those days) and I could not for the life of me convince her to go with any of the Android devices at VZW ("they're too big for my hand" :bawling:). She wanted a 4 rather than a 4S, so fine with me.

So, long story short, I sent her to Best Buy to use our remaining upgrade. Got a VZW loyalty discount of $50, which reduced her phone cost to $50. And I had registered for a Best Buy upgrade bonus in February, so got a BB Gift Card of $50. Net cost before taxes and fees - ZERO. :proud:

Copacetic, it doesn't recognize when I wave my hand, but it WILL wake up when I brush the top of the phone with my fingers. Pretty cool... but the nearest restaurant to me is 935 miles away :p

Robin recognizes me when I wave (very cool btw) , but does not always here me when I speak. And yes, the nearest coffee shop was a ways a way, lol. I think for folks in places like San Fran, it could be very useful. Especially the parking feature. SpeakToIt is not perfect, but she seems to work pretty reasonably. The problem I have with the Nexie in general, is if she is in the dock in my car and I speak to her, she can not hear me over the noise in the car. I have to hold the bottom of the phone to my mouth and speak. I don't have this problem in a quiet environment, only in the car. Same issue hapens on speakerphone in the car. (speakerphone on the Nexie, not BlueTooth).

Happy Father's Day everyone. I've been busy all day with the kiddos. Church, shopping, and then went to the driving range and putt-putt golf with my oldest. About to start some crab legs for dinner. They had an awesome sale on, and they look fantastic. Can't wait.

Oh, and happy Birthday Ryan!
