THE USUAL, EDIT/MOD/USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I USE THESE MODS MYSELF. BECAUSE THEY WORK FOR ME DOES NOT MEAN THEY WILL WORK FOR YOU. KEEP A COPY OF THE INVOLVED FILES/APKS IN A SAFE PLACE IN CASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG

This guide is for the DIYs. I refuse, when I can, to simply hand over a flashing.zip so flashers (not those kind of flashers y'all just thought about ;) ) exit now. DIYs, keep on reading.

This will be a quick and hopefully short guide because im typing from my phone. This MOD will allow you to add (and remove) timeouts from/to your SETTINGS.APK. I will be teaching about adding new timeout times and/or edit the current ones. This guide will cover adding a 10 seconds screen timeout.

A small amount of knowledge about decompiling and copy/paste is required, meaning you would need to have previously messed around with decompiling and recompiling programs because I will not be going over those steps. See the All things root guide for details on these procedures. You have your own ways of doing things. I make the guide so I'll be using my ways, got a problem? :D

Step 1: pull Settings.apk from your phone using Android Commander and copy it to a safe location.

Step 2: decompile it and go to /values/arrays (if is not arrays is the other one) and scroll down until you see the screen timeouts values (15,30,1,2,10,30)

Step 3: copy the string with 15, place the cursor at the beginning of the string, paste and hit enter. Change the now first 15 to 10.

Step 4: now, just under those set of strings there are another set of strings that defined the actual timing, in miliseconds I think. Do the same thing we did on Step 3. You should now have a string with 10000 and the next one should be 15000, 30000, etc or similar ( I could be missing or have an extra 0)

Step 5: save, recompile and using 7zip pull the resources out of the unsigned apk to the original apk.

Step 6: push the Settings.apk back into the phone. Reboot if needed and test the new timeout time.

YOU'RE DONE

This may be most unorganized guide I will ever provide, if my girl sees me touching the computer I'll have to sleep with the dog lmao :D so bear with me.

You just now realizing that 90% of people are lazy and useless? lol And want everything done for them? That's the Obama way so it's his fault.

Hey hey, I like OBAMA. Yea, I had a dream.....that 90% of ppl will stop being lazy :D.

I really don't know if ppl actually like this sort of mods, I mean, anyone can come up with a flashable zip and claim to include 25 different mods, and though it may be true there are 25 mods in it, they may all be easy stuff like this, yet they get mad props for NOT teaching them  :D

love this!!! putting it in my rom now!!!! and ill tell ya why ;)

i've done some reading up about those of us having the issue of phone being awake when screen is off. aside from your normal syncing and data reasons lol, there are a few threads pointing to the power button as the reason. when using the power button to shut screen off it doesn't let it fully sleep, so it's best to let the screen timeout. if this is true i cant confirm yet i just found out lol but im testing using the lowest setting i have which is 15

so ill probly add a 5, 7 & 10 (why 7 you ask? because im gonna use that, 5 seconds is too short and 10 secs a tad too long haha)

That is a good theory. I don't know. I've had the issue several times and each time I went to GREAT lengths to find out what it was that was causing that and each time, I would just re install the ROM and it would stop. So therfore I would give up cause the phone wasn't doing it anymore. IDK. It makes sense though about the power button.
