Help The RAM keeps on increasing until i restart my phone

So my RAM's lower limit keeps on increasing even when i clear my memory manually...ive also used Apps like GO Task Manager....

FOR EXAMPLE :
the phone starts with 54% ram...
it keeps on increasing gradually even when i clear memory ....like 58% then to atleast 90%...and when clearing memory on 90% it only clears upto like 70% MAX.

any tips ??

Yes thats what RAM is for. Caching processes and system files for quicker access later on.

You do not need to clear RAM, thats counter intuitive. You also do not need to Kill tasks with a task killer. Read this:

Why are you cleaning RAM? Surely you're not experiencing slow down?

I run Tasker, and it warns me that the amount of available RAM is getting low, and that I need to reboot the device. I have three or four active profiles, mostly managing profile settings like volume, based on locale and time of day. It most often happens when the profiles change...

If the OP has a radically different problem, I apologise and will post a new thread.

That cant happen. Android will manage RAM and if it thinks that is a possibility of RAM being filled, it will kill tasks appropriately - automatically.

The idea is that you dont keep checking RAM and obsessing over running applications as Android manages everything for you. Everyone calls Android a geeky / techy OS but it really is designed for the every day user who possibly wouldnt understand all this stuff anyway.

Its hard but try not to think about ram etc. just enjoy your shiny device

That may be a tasker specific issue. I have had that on the desire a few times but never on the SGS 3.

Even on the desire, when I looked at RAM, there was plenty free.

SUroot is quite correct.... RAM by default will accumulate and is held in place in case an App needs to use it again. However, as and when another App is launched your system will look at the RAM being used and free it as and when with whichever App is least likely to be recalled.

Maybe you have a badly coded application that is leaking. This can happen.

Did you download anything that wasn't on your s2? Might be a memory leak somewhere.

Got the same problem here with an international S3 GT-9300 with only 1 GB of RAM.

I know about Android's caching strategy, and I don't complain about it. My problem is that when I run out of RAM applications get restarting constantly, and my S3 goes unusable. Even keyboard dissapears every few seconds and doesn't let me to write anything.

I'm trying reseting device to stock firmware with no user apps and problem has kept on.

After rebooting device everyhing goes really fast and smooth for hours, but when runs out of RAM.....

Problem has been present in following official (only updated by OTA) Android versions: 4.0.3, 4.0.4, 4.1.1, 4.1.2 (my current multiwindowed version from Samsung)

Doing top via ssh to my device shows a process called something 'Android host' getting bigger and bigger and so on. I've seen it up to 880 MBs before device turning unusable....

Can't see many cases like mine on the Internet, but S3s of two well known people of mine have similar behaviors...

Does anyone know something could help?

No need to worry about RAM until low RAM makes a quad core device to take more than 15 seconds for displaying keyboard or apps grid menu...

Everything is Ok if u only see 100 MB free because you've got some stuff cached, and OS quickly clears cache to provide RAM when applications demand it.

But when system is unable to provide RAM for basic applications, even killing all cached stuff, it starts stoping other apps for providing RAM to demanding one. When this process is finished, another basic app demands memory and system has to kick another runnning process for the incoming one to take place, but, this outgoing process demands its returns when get conscious is shutted down, and forces another running app to be kicked out....

This situation makes device hot like you can't imagine, because is the most intensive thrasing situation you can imagine...

Every process keeps on constant restarts, and user can't use anyone of them. Even OS processes as keyboard, setup app, etc...

It is obvious there is one big and sizing up amount of memory system is unable to free. Probably a leaking app, but if so, it must be a stock application (don't know if Google's or Samsung's) because it has privileges enough to force basic apps, as keyboard, to get out of memory in order to place itself. And remember situation remains present even after a stock reset.

I've enabled a SSH server in my system, but top only shows a 'system' process with 880M on the RSS column. Don't know what to do.

Please, stop thinking people don't know of cache and memory behaviour. This is a really undesigned and annoying situation.... No one complains of low free memory when phone runs fast and smooth and everything keeps working on.

Real billions in advance for any kind of help

Tried clearing cache from Default Application Manager Cache tab, and also tried some applications aimed on task managing, but none of these succeded.

Besides, when phone gets so laggy and with no free mem, cache tab in Applcation Manager shows no apps in cache

Sum of all amounts of ram of every app shown in application manager doesn't exceed 200 MBs....

Any other idea?

Not my intention to offend you. I've not tried to pronounce about what you know or don't, but what people with my same problem (we are more than one if you google it) know. Tired of listening that cache musn't clear until necessary because of memory demands of applications, etc.

It's obviuos that no OS could give preference to cache an old application over the continuos working of basic OS apps, like bluetooh service, keyboard application, default Samsung Launcher (I mean TouchWiz), etc...

Not productive to discuss or fight among users instead of helping and solving problems. I highly appreciate your effort and ideas, sad they didn't drive me to sucess.

I have the same problem and even I have updated all the versions through Kies or OTA. Someone suggested in a thread on another forum that disabling the Swipe pattern ripple effect unlock would help. I tried this and it did work to some extent. However, the RAM that increased to 90-95% in 3-4 hours earlier now increases in 10-12 hours. That was the only difference that it made.

I am no RAM expert so can't really comment on the usage pattern and stuff, but is it possible that TouchWiz is actually eating up the RAM. Because I happened to see the Battery Usage service on the phone and it showed TouchWiz eating up most battery after the Screen and Chrome.

Maybe custom launchers will help? Any ideas?

Hi, I have the same problem but a little more complicated. I've tried clearing caches, deleting apps, task killers, everything. After all of that, it seems to be destined to have 500-600 mb of RAM used up, which I can deal with because I know now that it's cleaning up lesser used apps as it goes. Now this is where it gets tricky: I have a 64 GB SD card (really 59 GB) that I've had no problems with until yesterday. I've constantly had about 52 GB used up for about 2 months. Whenever I try to install my SD card, I can use my phone for about 1-2 minutes as the ram keeps filling up til... BOOM! From around 700 mb it shoots up to the limit of 829 mb and freezes on me. I've tried manually tapping that "clear memory" button as fast as I can but it's no help. I wish I could see what the particular app is, or whatever it is that's causing this, but I never have enough time as the phone has to load. Someone please help!

Same problem here. What i noticed is that after restarting my phone, it starts off at 410MB and starts increasing gradually to over 650MB. Once you press clear memory it says 26 applications closed and it goes down to about 450MB. This happens upon restarting phone without opening any apps. Wonder what these 26 apps might be? I also tried the ripple effect and it affected to some extent.

a)You have 2 gigs of ram on these phones, you aren't hurting or running out.

B) android is not windows. In android free ram is wasted ram. The OS loads apps into the cache for faster retrieval later. This does not effect your battery life.
