Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

You & I have a lot in common, Lucky. High School was the absolute worst four years of my life. I would NEVER go back to that.

I was very fat in high school. Had big hair. I was picked on incessantly. I ended up being the biggest "geek" in the school: when the geeks got tired of being picked on, they came and picked on me. I was what they would refer to as the school loser.

They're planning some sort of whole school reunion thing (since the school was closed shortly after I graduated), and I am delicately trying to balance my disdain for all things high school with the idea of going back to those idiots - many of whom have probably never left Georgia - and showing them how well I turned out... despite their best attempts to utterly destroy my psyche.

I was also a nerd, but I only dealt with the cruel treatment in Middle School, I moved at the end of 8th grade, to a new school, which was a little more rural than the district I was in before. That helped. Plus I broke my arm in the middle of acting class, and that MADE me socially. (acting folks are remarkably outgoing, and I guess on pity, took me under their wing) :D

Just received a reminder that my 10 year high school reunion is less than a month away and they need a finalized head count for who is coming....decisions decisions. I hated high school.

I didn't go to any of my reunions until the 20th. I didn't have a particularly good time in high school, but I will say this...time changes people, and some of the people who never had anything to do with me in high school are now very dear friends. Of course, some are still the mean spirited a$$es they were in high school, but on the whole, I enjoy my class mates MUCH more 20+ years later. :)

The people from high school that I want to talk to I have since I graduated. Why go to a reunion and force conversation with folks I haven't talked to for 20 years.

I have to be honest, Facebook has made it very easy to keep up with friends from high school. So not a huge need for reunions, you know what everyone has been up to.

Yeah I saw that sale. I was thinking that Captain Ron would love FlightTrack... but he likely already has it.

EDIT: On second thought, I'm not sure what he would do with it. I mean, why would a commercial pilot worry about where everyone else's planes are? And if he needs an Android app to track the plane he's flying.... well....

Captain Ron has an app called a "navigator"; he can "talk" to the Navigator (kind of like Siri) to ask "hey, where are we and where's the nearest Starbucks" (and the Navigator then checks HIS copy of FlightTrack and speaks the answer back to Captain Ron). :D

"Hey, where's the nearest Starbucks?"

"It is 7.3 miles northeast of your location... and 37,400 feet down."

"Dangit... adjust heading northeast 12 degrees. Where's my parachute?"

"Behind the jumpseat. Enjoy your latte, Captain."

"Well co-pilot, you know what buttons to push, right? Flaps, gear, cut engine, land. (opens door) "I'll have a double cappo-mocha waiting for you: see ya!"

Morning all...
I was the nerd and geek in high school..I was on the swim team...but had a child waiting at home. So I worked 2 jobs, studied computers....and worked at the AF base nearby with engineers on a project that flew in the Space Shuttle back in 94....today I have no desire to speak to or see anyone from high school, FB is as close to those jergoffs as I want to be... okay, better now.
Hope everyone's week is going well. We have the "executive management committee" showing up at our little office today...woo hoo. Good thing I work in the other building cause I seriously doubt they will grace the doorway. Just hope our department does not get the ax today!!

Kids are still having fun at camp...and so tired they are going to bed early every night....my 5 yr old came home last night absolutely ecstatic that she rode the zip line in gym yesterday...TWICE, she says (we heard that story at least 5 times last night..and she got to tell her mom the same thing!!!) Adorable is what she is!!!!

I live in one of the cities listed as "new". We've had it for almost a month now, haha.

Regarding the high school stuff. I wasn't necessarily the outcast in high school, but I was never popular. I'm not saying that was worse than being a "outcast" but it definitely wasn't fun. I didn't really fit in in any group. I was very small for my age, so eventhough I was an above average athlete, I wasn't good at the popular sports like basketball and football. I played tennis. I graduated high school at 5'4" 130 lbs and even that was probably an exaggeration. Just a late bloomer socially and physically. Mentally I was always ahead of the curve. Within 2 years of graduating I grew over 5" and gained 40 lbs of muscle. I have seen a few people from high school since graduating and they didn't recognize me at first. I have kept in contact with 2-3 people fairly regular since high school and honestly those are the only ones I want to keep in contact with. Still undecided about my reunion.

So disgustingly hot out today.

Good morning everyone - worked from home yesterday and of course was super busy with work and unpacking the apartment.

Has anyone ever dealt with centipedes in the home? We have found 7-8 while unpacking our stuff and another one scurried out last night. I bought a caulking gun and plan to seal up all the baseboards and cracks where they can come in. Internet says to use a dehumidifier so gonna look into purchasing one of those as well - even though the AC is technically a dehumidifier I'd like to see the humidity level in the room. Sprayed the outside of the apartment with Raid, but can't bomb the place yet because of the cat. Just looking for suggestions because I'd like to get rid of them without them laying eggs or anything and getting infested.

Missed you all yesterday - it was weird not posting here.

Hey y'all!

So last night my family celebrated my 30th with a very acceptably low key dinner and cocktails!

There is a place in San Jose called Iguanas Burritozilla. I had the mid size burrito which is over a foot long and ate about a foot of that. Some delicious margaritas to chase a few shots and it was golden! Even my little boy got in on the burrito action! He ate 1/3 of the contents of the regular burrito...pretty good for a 20 month old little bugger!

Anyway, gotta say that I am happy with the fact that I didn't go out, didn't have to deal with people I don't know, worry about a cab, etc, etc. It was nice to have my Aunt be the bartender and my adopted Mom get drunk off of one margarita! Funny really!

So what am I doing today? My wife is working six hours today and I have to do all the prep work for my interview tomorrow. What a way to say 30!

In the end it is all worth the trouble of being a responsible parent, husband and family member. Hopefully I will be in bed by 8p to get lots of rest (My day begins at 3a tomorrow), work a half shift, nail my interview and look toward my new guidely practice over the weekend.

You guys/gals are great and I can't say it enough!
