Nope. Not as of yet. I have tried using the gingerbreak binary, rageagainstthecage, psneuter, motofail, and zergRush, all of them have been patched. Me and my brother are looking into linux kernel exploits that will work on this phone.

It took me forever just to get adb working. I have only got it working in Linux, as the drivers for windows do not work properly.

If anyone makes any head-way on rooting this phone, please let me know!

Does the Windows adb driver from PDAnet work by any chance? I just remember I needed it to root the ZTE Warp :p

FOR REAL, THIS is the driver i used to mount it to my computer, i would really like to get my phone rooted, but i do not know enough about program code to even begin to try. but! my computer recoginizes my phone ON windows....with that driver of course. problem is it come with unneeded software, which can be removed without obstructing the driver for the venture.

recap - i have my phone recognized by windows, and i can open the sd card when i enable the usb drive function on my phone. hence how i have music and some apps which i could not get from my phone i hope hope this helps.

oh, as you may notice, i have only one post, but i read alot of these android forums. i have been hitting google about my phone like mad! dont ask me how i came up with that driver, but i do KNOW it works on windows xp sp3 32bit

No offense, but having your phone recognized as a mass storage device (a thumb drive, essentially) and having it recognized by the Android ADB utility in debugging mode are two entirely different things. On all my Windows XP SP3 boxes I was able to just plug a USB cable into the phone and see it in mass storage mode. That driver you're using is probably similar to the the generic USB mass storage/thumb drive driver.

The problem is that no one has found a Windows driver that will allow the ADB utility to work with the phone in debug mode. That's necessary to root the phone.

However, b_randon14 and I were both independently able to get it to work with ADB in debug mode under Linux, which doesn't need an actual driver per se. It might be possible to root it under Linux, but like b_randon14 said, the easy root utilities won't work and there aren't a lot of people who have both the phone and the knowledge to work on it. I got tired of all the problems and bought an Optimus Elite, but might try some more later, if I have time.

ok, superoneclick recognizes it, but wont follow thru with the entire process, but gets stuck on step 7. btw, you can push files to certain directories with the easy adb push tool. dont have the link for that tho. so, if you could push the needed files for the exploit manually, i def think its possible. it would be like a 100 step process tho. js

While Googling around to help a friend with this phone, I came across this:

Free Alcatel Venture z4root Software Download

According to Mobyware (I am unfamiliar with this site, but a search says that it is legit), Z4Root 1.3.0 will root it. I don't have the phone, but it might be worth checking. Hopefully this helps you guys out.

Edit: It could just autopopulate with the phone name that you search. It is worth a look though.

Installed both APKs. Ran Poot. It downloaded a 10MB update for QT. When that finished it crashed with "Your application encountered a fatal error and cannot continue" or something like that. I ran it again, repeatedly, and kept getting that error immediately on running it. I moved it to internal memory (I default everything to SD) and tried again, no good. I rebooted the phone, still no good.

Want to point me at some good tips on manual rooting? It might be within my capabilities, I used to do some linux security work so not all of it will be alien to me...

someone help this guy out,
also, i ADB does recognize my phone, thats how i have set the phone storage to sd card as default, and have used a ADB method to unlock sending alot more apps to my sd card.
google "how to move any app to my sd card" it shows using adb and setting the line -
$pm setInstallLocation 2
it worked, so i know adb recognizes it, and is able to change things, otherwise i would not be able to move an app like Facebook to my sd. :) best of luck people, ill keep checking in. :)
