Just Got my Hero....now what?

Hello Everyone!!
Like the title says, just got home with my phone and headed straight here. Is there anything I should or should'nt do right away? Also, after knowing what you guys know, what advice can you give me regarding this phone. Thanks..........

Well you can start by adding your email accounts, try out some of the pre-installed apps, definitely re-callibrate the keyboard, and then follow where ever the Hero takes you...lol

You should look into

Rooting
Then upgrade to a new custom 2.1 ROM

WAIT! Before you do anything, make sure you are running the LATEST update!

To see if you have the latest update compared to that on the HTC website, check here on your Hero:

Settings > About Phone > Build Number

Play on the App market, use "view all" apps to look at the highest rated apps, and download away!

TY, just got the phone and people suggesting rooting. How about learn the thing 1st, then explore those other options. Check out the tips and tricks section that's sticky and go from there. Takes a little tweaking here and there, but once u get the hang of how it operates it's a pretty sweet device.

Do not root! Read all the post try doing it and then all the ones that have and had problem and came back. I had nothing. but issues.

Learn your phone as much as you can 1st...so don't root it right away, I took a couple of weeks learning my phone until I decided to root my phone.

READ READ READ every guide from rooting, flashing roms, etc... DON'T JUST JUMP ON IT! that's how people brick their phones..

make sure if you download a ROM it's for the Htc Hero CDMA not for HERO GSM ...

now onto rooting....when you do decide to root, use fresh pre-kitchen 0.2 (make sure to do the patch for it as well)

before trying the new 2.1 ROMs ...I say give the 1.5 ROM's a try 1st...that way you'll get an idea of how ROMs run and etc....
