Its the closest thing yet to a marketable electric car IMO. But if the original Tesla roadster is any indication, we are not there yet. I honestly think it is going to take one more leap in battery tech, whatever that may be, and then we will be there.
Is anyone else excited about the Tesla Model S now shipping to its first customers?
The Tesla roadster has a major issue in that the battery is rendered useless if the charge drops below a certain percentage, and vampire loads cause that to happen in as little as two weeks, even from a full charge. It even locks the wheels, so getting it on a tow truck is extremely difficult, AND it's not covered by warranty if it happens ($60000 replacement cost) , even though Tesla didn't warn their customers about it and are refusing to issue a warning, due to worry of drop in sales.
Well the incidences where it has revealed itself is when the vehicle was parked without the capability to charge. i.e. I think one died at an airport parking lot, and another died in a ship's cargo bay while being shipped overseas. Tesla did tell their customers to always keep the charge up, but never warned about the consequences. They are claiming their warning was sufficient, even though its common sense that people will be a whole lot more careful if they know they are on the hook for a $60k battery if they don't follow the warning...
What Tesla has done to combat it, is have the car send out a warning message to Tesla if it drops below a certain percentage, and call the owner to remind them to plug it in. If they can't get a hold of the owner, they will activate the GPS, find the car, and if the car is located near a service center, they have actually dispatched a mobile charger to see if they can gain access to the car and charge it.
Ok, so we are in Maryland for my husband granddaughters first birthday and his son just brought us to a Wegmans, can you say overwhelmed!
On my golf cart I just disconnect the batteries to get rid of any electrical leaks.
1.) Always assumed you were a guy
2.) What's a Wegmans?
Lol, does a girly tom boy count? It's a colossal, overwhelmingly big grocery store with more than 10,000 natural and organic groceries, 8000 specialty items and a market cafe that puts a lot of restaurants to shame.
Essentially what Tesla could implement on their vehicles if it senses it is getting below a certain battery level. Alternatively have a button for the owner to press to go into long-term parking mode that, again, isolates the battery but does so immediately so the charge isn't lost at an airport parking lot or in ship transportation like Anti said.
Awesomeness! Overwhelming too!
Girly tomboy eh? Isn't that an oxymoron? lol Still counts as a girl, right?

Pup, you would think there would be an option for long term storage to do this. But sadly there isn't. Its all hard wired. Tesla wants to be able to monitor their cars, and you can't do it if it is unplugged.
I hope you guys realize I was being sarcastic. It is amazing that they don't provide for this though.
I do actually have a golf cart and it has a switch under the seat for exactly this purpose.
It fits, by all appearances I am a girly girl, (long hair and nails, high heels, short skirts) but my interests are more along guys interests..I love to wrench on cars, take things apart, do plumbing, electrical and carpentry, go to the range etc. most people feel I am an oxymoron, lol.
That's my husband favorite view, lol! And he is a Pete! All I can picture now is a good looking woman in a short skirt and high heels under the car changing oil. I'm a married man for pete's sake, I can't be gettin images like that stuck in my head, lol
