Help I think I broke my ATT 3G Nexus by turnig on EDGE

I was browsing the settings menu and came across the force EDGE option under network settings. Since I'd never seen EDGE on my 3G ATT in the days since it arrived I decided to force EDGE and it worked fine. Then I unchecked the box and 3G came back. All seemed well until I ran a speedtest.

Since my ATT 3G arrived the lowest speedtest number I've gotten was 1.98mbps. The highest was 3.34mbps.

Now I cannot get above 0.82mbps, I ran a speedtest right before forcing EDGE and it was 3.02mbps. Like I said now it refuses to go above 0.82

Upload is even worse: I now get slightly better uploads on EDGE than 3G now!

0.05mbps at 3G and 0.09 at EDGE! I was getting 1.28 upload consistently before ever finding that force EDGE setting. Needless to say this puppy is going back Monday. I tried a factory reset and now cannot get above 0.36mbps download on 3G!!! So that seems to have hosed it even worse.

I'm going to spend the rest of the weekend trying to resolve this and send it back Monday if nothing changes. What a bummer.

Do a factory reset on the device. Chances are thow that you just have a bad 3g signal

Yeah man I already did that and it actually made it worse but thanks for the reply anyway.:)

I'm going to try pulling the battery for two minutes and see what that does...

BTW, has PDANET pulled their app from the market? After the factory reset I went looking for my apps and pdanet is missing for me.

anyway I'll report back after the battery pull

okay I just rocked a 3.26mbps

wheeew :)

There was something buggy going on because for a while there EDGE was actually faster than 3G! The speedtest app kept acting like it was chocking and freezing and I was getting latencies in the +900. My last ping was 125 so all is good again.

I'm never touching that force EDGE option again unless I have to.:D

Now if I can just find pdanet in the market....

Glad you got your speeds back. Yes it appears that ATT N1 are missing PDANET, I eneded up putting in my wifes TMO sim to get it installed again.

Thanks!

Not sure the pdanet issue is an ATT 3G Nexus issue though. I downloaded it onto my ATT 3G just three days ago from the marketplace. Now it's simply missing from the market..

Oddly enough, that new tethering app called Tether is also now missing for me. Tether used to be called Tetherberry until it became available for Android several weeks ago. They made a big deal out of it now it's just missing too.

I'm lucky to have my EDGE Nexus One with PDAnet still on it. I simply downloaded astro file manager form the market, backed pdanet up on to my SD card, and then installed it on to my 3G ATT Nexus. Astro saved my ass big time.:)

I'm tethering right now via Nexus att 3G>>pdanet :D I love Android!!!!!:D
