Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

We had some last night when I went to bed. Love em! My parents live in SW Indiana, they get tons of violent storms in the summertime. :)

We typically get a lot of afternoon thunderstorms here. Nada this summer though :( Nothing better than being 100 degrees out and then have this pop-up thunderstorm roll through and cool it down to the mid 70's.

Does anyone use Lookout? I decided to give it a shot for kicks. Not pysched to keep my GPS on all the time, but I suppose it's worth the battery use if I lose my phone.

I use Lookout on the phone and tablet for virus scanning. It scans every app and every update. Never had an issue.

I use SeekDroid for locating a lost or stolen device. Don't have to keep GPS on all the time, so no battery drain. I have tested the locate command and it appears to be much more accurate than the other location services, including Lookout. Also has great remote commands (you can track from a PC or a friend's phone) you can send to wipe the device, sound an alarm, etc.

I like a thunderstorm as much as the next person - especially now that we can sit in our pack porch and watch them - but the problem is that NC does not get a nice relaxing thunderstorm. 90% of the time, thunderstorms are categorized as "severe" which is frequent lightning, winds in excess of 60 MPH, and torrential rains. It's a little intimidating, to be honest. My poor dog is scared to death of thunderstorms, fireworks, etc. We bought her a Thundershirt and it seems to help. It's not a cure, but she isn't as neurotic during a storm when she has it on.

Same here, but I still enjoy them. Even with hail mixed in, I still like sitting on the porch and wacthing them.

I wondered if those Thundershirts worked or not. Interesting.

For me, I think it's the remote - but real - possibility that harm may befall my family during the storm. Fire, the roof peeling off, etc. I'm not neurotic but I am a bit paranoid.

There's supposed to be storms tonight; I'll grab a pic if we put her Thundershirt on.

Has anyone upgraded to B40? Downloading it now. Looking forward to seeing any changes.
Still on B38. XD Any cool new features in 39 and 40?
Totally unexpected present this morning at work. Today is the 150th anniversary of our company (UBS) so the Chairman and Group CEO sent out free watches to all employees. It's nice to work for a big company sometimes.
Wow! Awesome watch.
Breaking news! Venus Williams out in first round of Wimbledon!! SWEET!
Why's that sweet? :/

Yeah, I find that I ignore the possibilities of danger, and instead find myself in awe of nature and its power... My next house will have a porch specifically for watching storms... Both me and my wife love storms.

Who doesn't like storms? My first pilot job was flying into typhoons and that was a blast.

On another note my daughter has cracked the screen on my old Droid 2. The good news is she is now a full time Android fan and can't imagine going back to her dumb phone. The bad news is she doesn't have an upgrade for another year.

So I'm looking to replace it with a used phone like an Incredible or Droid X. I'll head over to the classifieds, but I thought I'd check here first. If anyone has something in decent condition they'd like to sell please pm me.

So, the wife and I did some discussing this weekend and came up with 2 key points that will inevitably lead us to switching to the family share plans with Verizon when they come out (this Thursday, right?).

1.) The only way to keep unlimited data would be to pay full price for phone upgrades from here on out. Since we get no credit on our bill from not being on subsidized phones, Verizon would be doubly profiting from us on each line (the plan prices that are configured to make up the subsidized phones, and the phone's retail pricing themselves). I just can't allow Verizon to make a killing off of me on both the plan and the phone while taking a hit to my wallet every two years by paying in upwards of $1,000 for two phones. I realize I might be able to recover $200-$400 of that by reselling, but that's no guarantee and that still puts us out $500-$600 at a minimum.

2.) Even if we keep the unlimited data, it's only on our phones. We don't use that much data on our phones and it's just impractical to try to run a whole house's internet off of a couple of smart phone's wifi hotspot. That would be the only way we would be able to really take advantage of the unlimited data.

So rather than wait till the next upgrade to be forced into switching, we will probably be switching plans and losing unlimited data unless someone here can come up with a feasible option that would allow us to really utilize that unlimited data.

Wait, why are you doing it now instead of waiting until an upgrade? It saves you money?

Yeah, the way I figure, it would save us around $30-$40/month. We don't use much data. Combined around 2GB/month.

I'm actually ashamed of myself. My wife is using more data than me this month. 400MB to 390MB with only 7 days left. Dating back to January of this year, I have hovered around 1GB/month with a max of 1.2GB. The wife has hovered around 400MB/month with a max of 428MB.

Ah, ok. Yeah, no go for me... Would cost us extra, due to the low 700 minute plan... We would probably have to go with the 4GB plan too, I use just over 2GB per month on average... My wife uses about 200 MB :p

Ah, yeah, if we had the 700 minute plan it might work for us too. We had to go with the 1400 minute plan due to all of our family being with AT&T and our two cell phones being our only phones (no land line). Throw in texting for both lines and it just makes sense for us to go to the share everything plan. Our bill lookes like this:

1400 minutes - $90
2nd line - $10
Texting for 2 lines - $20
Unlimited Data for 2 lines - $60
Total - $180

And that's before taxes, fees, and discounts and I only get my 20% discount on the main line's 1400 minutes and the main line's data.

Under the new plan:
2 smartphones with unlimited minutes and texts - $80
Family data bucket of 4GB - $70
Total - $150

Again before taxes and fees but I get the 20% off on the data bucket and the main line's $40 access fee. So I get more of a discount in addition to it being cheaper.

Actually, you won't get a discount on the main line access fee unfortunately. Only the data bucket...

That's not what I was informed. They said I would get it on both access fees and my data. Made sense because The only thing I didn't get a discount on on my current plan was the second line's text, data, and $9.99 add-a-line. I got the discount on the minutes package as a whole. Then again since when is any Verizon CSR right? Either way it's still $20 cheaper before any discounts and I'll get a 20% discount on the $70 at a minimum which is $14. So at the most I'd be paying $136 plus taxes and fees which would bring it to around $145 as opposed to $168.

I'm on B39 with GPS & NFC Changes patched.

Haven't gone to B40 yet. B40 includes the GPS fix and NFC changes in it so I might just upgrade. NFC can be polled with screen off or screen on & locked - default is only screen on & unlocked.
Hmm, seems interesting. Perhaps I'll look over the changelogs. Thanks. :)
Over the years, their (both Williams sisters) whining and generally...their overall personalities have rubbed me the wrong way. So I for epic failures by them every time.
Interesting. I feel the same way about Nadal. Ever since his infamous incident where he was gnawing on the trophy of whichever Major it was that he won all those years ago, I just find him exceedingly arrogant and disrespectful. Not to mention those ridiculous capris he wears, lol.
