Shortcut To App Drawer

When you click the app drawer it pulls up all the apps installed in abc order.

What I want is a shortcut on my desk top to do the same thing. Just an icon on the desktop that once click will open all my apps. Its needs to be a shortcut and not a widget as I'd like to be able to change the icon when i want.(As far as I know you can not change the icon on a widget)

Running 1.6

One question that eveyone seems to be overlooking. Are you wanting to have a short cut to just the apps you use most or to all the apps on your device?

I can see where you might want to put a short cut folder with all the apps you use frequently in it. That might save thumbing through the gazillion unwanted and unneeded apps in the regular app drawer.

I must say the need for this confuses me...you could always make a folder with all of your apps though.

There isn't a "need" for it just as there isn't a need to change the home screen wallpaper. It's a preference. I simply want to put the app drawer icon in a different location like any other icon.

I don't have an issue with thumbing through my apps. I also like the 3D effect of the app drawer. It's purely a customization preference I'd like to have.

I completely agree with ashb here; It's a very sad thing if we first have to justify why we want to do a certain thing before people are prepared to help achieve it.

I discovered this thread because I'm trying to do exactly the same as NeWcS; to create a desktop shortcut that opens the App drawer. Has anyone yet found a solution to this, please?

As said before, third party launchers will do it. On Go Launcher for example, you can just drag the app drawer icon off the bottom dock to wherever you want to put it.
Thanks, but I'm using Launcherpro, which unfortunately doesn't. I wonder if anyone knows of an app that will do what we're looking for?
I have found, though, that LauncherPro allows you to configure a physical button to open the App Drawer under certain conditions, so that's at least a workaround for the moment.

I feel compelled to respond again on this issue of people reacting to questions by exclaiming that they can't understand the "need". I have a short cut that, when pressed, waits 25 seconds and then plays a particular WAV. That's no doubt unusual, probably not many people would want such a thing, but it serves me well for what I want. If someone posted here saying they wanted their phone to reboot every time it received a call, that would seem ridiculous to me, but I would respect that for whatever reason that's what was wanted, and if I knew how to help achieve it I would do so. As ashb pointed out there is no "need" to have an app draw shortcut, just as there is no "need" change the wallpaper, or use a different launcher, or change the colour scheme or the font or to select one option over a hundred others. It's called user choice.

But there's a "need" to find a way to achieve this "user's choice." It doesn't seem unreasonable to me to question this need, especially if it's already easily accomplished. As stated, Go Launcher satisfies this need. ;)

I do agree, absolutely. It's not unreasonable at all to question the need, if its done constructively. But the overriding feeling in this thread was of people saying "What on earth you want to do that for?, don't bother", without offering any useful help. That's all.

I appreciate that indeed Go Launcher satisfies what I'm trying to do, and am grateful for the suggestion. However it's an option that requires me to replace my entire launcher, hence my continuing to post here to see if anyone can offer an alternative solution which is a little less drastic.

Launcher Pro has what, not been updated for more than a year? I doubt if it has all the functionalities or newer launchers available.
Thanks for that. I am certainly considering taking the plunge and changing launcher, but on the other hand I'm actually very happy with LauncherPro and not worried that it's no longer being updated since it does everything I want (well, with one exception!!).

Launches aside; does anyone have any other suggestions, non-launcher related, as to how to tackle the problem which I can see at least four of us on this thread would like to solve.

Make that five! I'm using Stoic Home and want to assign the default app drawer to one of the gestures. Swipe Pad can do it so it must be possible! I know you can use an alternative app drawer but that shouldn't be needed.
