*Rezound ICS OTA is live Thread*

This is why it's frustrating being an android owner: iOS Vs. Android Fragmentation: Apple Users Stay Current

It would be kinda cool if HTC, Samsung and Motorola could be the big 3 to agree to standardize hardware somewhat to make updates faster. But that would probably break a bajillion laws :(

Actually, Google needs to work with all of the major chip suppliers when they're creating revisions. Excluding everyone from ICS development except for Omap/PowerVR means Google is TRYING to fragment itself for a full driver + skin development cycle.

Apple on the other hand considers their OS ready when the majority of it's target audience is supported, not "good enough" for one product and then fix everything later.

What a joke this ICS situation is. Being a slave to Verizon and it's seemingly limitless greed when it comes to pushing new phones without supporting or improving it's existing phones is horrible. Everyone who has installed the leaked version of ICS seems to love it, so there's obviously nothing that Verizon is doing to improve it before the push. If anything, they'll probably do more to screw it up than anything. How difficult is it to install the latest leaked version, and where can I get it WITH instructions on installing? I'm done waiting.

If you don't want to root and just want to install the latest leak, download it from this page, then follow the directions on this post. Remember that this wipes your phone completely, so back up anything you want backed up.

If you want to root first and run one of the awesome ROMs based on the leak, head over to the "All things Root" section, Scotty has a good, thorough guide.

(here's another guide... or take a really long way like me). :)

If I install this leak will I still receive the OTA?

So that's the tricky part -- I'm not sure. I remember on my Evo that sometimes the leaks were a later build number than the OTA, thus meaning you couldn't receive the OTA. Looking around, I get the impression that folks don't think that will be an issue here, but it is a possibility. Hopefully people more knowledgeable than me will chime in with a more definitive answer on how big a risk it is.

Another reason I personally prefer to root and run custom roms (there are almost always devs who make the phone work better than OTAs anyway).

I would like to root too but this phone is my daily driver and I depend on it for business and if I were to F*** it up I would be completely screwed. Even the simple explanations of how to root the Rez are a bit daunting to me. Still, I want to get rid of the bloat and tweak it for performance so bad. Getting ICS would be the ice cream on the cake. I really want Sense 4 too but I can always load Apex launcher which seems to be better anyway.
