N1 charging dock sucks

Anyone else get the charging dock with their N1?

This thing is the worst charging dock Ive ever owned for a phone and the price is completely not worth it.

It fails to sit in the cradle correctly, I constantly have to monitor that its hitting the contacts and it charges sooo slowly.

The other funny thing about it is since its a micro USB, I tried using my Bold 9700 USB charger for it but the dock didnt register it supplying power at all. Had to use the actual charger sent by Google. Now I guess I cant really return it since that plastic has been opened.

Anyone else have thoughts on the dock?

i didn't get one because that's what my initial thought was - that is sucked!

had it been a horizontal craddle - i would have considered it... as that would make it a great bedside clock/alarm, and also a helpful little stand for watching movies in landscape mode... for me, the vertical dock = fail

I have it and love it. Not sure why you are having issues, but I just drop it in there at night and it connects fine. Never had one issue.

I agree. I understand the use of pins instead of using the usb plug into the phone, that would be a snapped plug waiting to happen, but why go vertical. Just odd and it seemed so perfect on the droid.

Well yeah, I like the dimming feature(other than the fact you actually have to press the icon on the screen for it to dim initially). But the fact that the cradle is very unstable in terms of pin contact is what annoys me.

I've had 3 blackberry cradles and a droid cradle. This N1 cradle is by far the worst designed and overpriced of them all.

Mine is very stable. Perhaps you have some obstruction causing it to be unstable? I don't know. I agree if mine were not stable I'd not like it.

This really should be configurable. An option to auto start photo gallery after 30 seconds, or auto dim after 30 seconds. Something like that.

they should also add a timer for music... like a 'sleep' function on a clock radio... so the the thing doesn't play all night

Can anybody else confirm that charging is slower when it's in the dock?

I've had my N1 for almost two and a half hours and I'm still waiting for that green light on it's initial charge. Doesn't seem like it should take this long.

I have the dock and charging defiantly takes longer. In the specs for the N1 it states that you get about half the power over USB charging vs. direct charging from the wall charger (480mA vs. 980mA). I wonder if the dock is only passing 480mA through from the wall charger like with USB. I've got to say that I don't think it's worth $50. It is handy (I use my N1 w/dock instead of an alarm clock next to my bed), but having to use BT for the audio out is kind of hokey - a true audio pass through would be so much better. It is fairly easy to knock it out of the dock too.

I have my dock and That was almost my best purchase imo (because best was nexus by itself). Phone is charging quickly (seriously - I'm still surprised how it that possible - my old viewty dod charge much slower even with 2/3 battery capacity to compare to nexus). Dock by itself is stable (as the phone in it - it's not tight but still).

Much-a-do about nuthin'!

So what if it's not Fort Knox rock solid! The dock functions just fine. The initial charge does take just a bit longer, but is acceptable subsequently. And the Nexus One looks great as a clock on the nightstand.

It would be kinda cool if there were another slot for a spare battery, however.
