Im curious what methods you guys use to take a DVD and turn it into a playable video on your Nexus One, start to finish. Please be sure to include all steps and links to any and all software you use.

Thanks!

Also, any opinions on the best video players for the Nexus One?

DVD Shrink

Handbrake

Google both of those.

DVD Shrink rips the DVD, and Handbrake converts it for use on your mobile device.

place dvd in pc drive

open dvd shrink

click open disk

click reauthor after analysis has completed

select file to rip

click backup

open handbrake

select file to convert

select formats

select target destination

select start

when finished drag and drop movie on to your Nexus

as for video players, I bought Act One. It allows you to change brightness settings and aspect ratio on the fly and I love it. Costs one or two bucks cannot remember. hope this helps

Use k9 & handbrake (both under Linux/Ubuntu..)

As suggested use the iPhone settings - BUT I'd suggest winding the image size up to 800x480 (or whatever fits within that) as you really really can see the difference in quality of image on a converted DVD between iPhone settings and higher pixels, even to 62yr old eyes..

Mind you the file sizes are, as you'd expect, bigger: The classic trade off, quality vs. quantity..

Cheers!

i've done the conversion... 720x480, or whatever aspect ratio the movie was it to fit within the 800x480 Nexus screen, and some movies end up not playing... the image difference between that and the standard iphone settings is minimal, and the size is way smaller if you just leave it on the iphone settings... works for me... but hey, people can experiment to see what works best for them...

I bought Inglorious Basterds on blu ray and it came with a digital copy. I copied it to my hard drive and attempted to use handbrake to convert to mp4. I select file, choose destination and format And click start. It stars to convert then an error message comes on saying windows has closed this program unexpectedly. I've tried several times And unistalled the program. Please help as I wud love movies on my N1.

+1, DVD Shrink, Handbrake, Act 1 Video.

Does anyone know if a higher resolution movie eats up more power then a low resolution movie?

probably not as the video gets scaled to whatever the screen can produce... all the same... but since the file size is larger, might require a bit more processing power to actually read/play the file... nothing to do with resolution, as the screen dictates that, it's not variable - ie. 800x480 output, no matter what the input res of the flick is...
