Root 1:1 help needed; problem with ctmod

I have had wonderful, 1:1 online help from one of the premium members of this site (thank you, Chris, if you're reading this) getting ctmod installed on my phone. However, I have had multiple daily problems with my phone ever since. Chris has helped triage the problems online, but I really need to find someone local (Columbia, MO) who can look at my phone and help me fix the problems.

The biggest problem I'm having is my screen goes black almost every day. The status bar still works, but my home screen is black and I cannot access the menu or apps. If I connect my phone to my PC via USB and select USB storage, my phone will usually resolve, but I'm getting tired of doing that every day, and it doesn't always work.

The other big problem is my backups. I've been using TB to backup my system, apps, and data daily. I then back up my phone to my PC daily. However, when I go into clockworkmod to look at backups, the most recent is from 6-13-12. What am I doing wrong with my backups?

So, is anyone local who is willing to help me? I know only enough to be dangerous, so please be patient as I try to understand how to fix this. Thank you.

i did the backup- correctly this time (thanks for the link)- but once again when rebooting I got the black screen. the only way to rid the black screen is to connect the usb. why??? how can i fix????

That link is just my signature, I didn't mean it for you. As far as the black screen and the USB connection, that's odd. I have never heard of that before. Hopefully someone chimes UN soon with an idea.

By any chance, after the CTmod install, did you use Titanium to restore apps?

Not recommended to restore apps backed up from other roms, best to start fresh and reinstall from the market.
I was instructed to restore my apps through cwm. I then used TB to restore the data to the apps. For the apps that didn't load, I downloaded them again from the market.

honestly, from what everyone is saying... don't use TB... make a backup with cwm, copy that off your sd card to your pc....

and i'd rebuild everything on a fresh copy of ctmod, use odins to load a fresh copy of fe16 or whatever the latest rooted stock is... then install ctmod.... then install your apps from market.... make sure everything works...... if it works for a couple days.... backup again with cwm... backup to pc... try restoring data with TB... if it screws up then.. you know wtf....

Also, my battery is draining quickly whenever I am using the phone. I have Advanced Task Killer and Easy Battery Saver that I use religiously, but since making all of these tweaks to get my pone working don't seem to be helping as much. When I look at running services, I see this:

Settings 8.3MB (seems excessive)
Go Launcher EX 14MB (I like Go Launcher, but seems excessive)
Facebook 12MB (seems to run constantly, even when I force close)
Easy Battery Saver 4.8MB(supposed to be saving battery???)
com.samsung.internal 1.7MB
DRM Protected Content 1.7MB
Google Services 9.8MB (not sure what or why??)
Ice Cream Sandwich keyboard 22MB (seems very excessive for a keyboard)

Which of these things can/should I change to save RAM??

Settings 8.3MB (seems excessive)

Go Launcher EX 14MB (I like Go Launcher, but seems excessive)
-Super ram heavy, i use adw instead. Go seemed to slow my phone to a crawl

Facebook 12MB (seems to run constantly, even when I force close)
-huge battery drain, constantly runs in background. I use browser to view it, and text messages for notifications

Easy Battery Saver 4.8MB(supposed to be saving battery???)
-The huge problem with 'battery savers' is that the app is another process running in the background eating battery while it searches for things to do to 'save' battery

com.samsung.internal 1.7MB

DRM Protected Content 1.7MB

Google Services 9.8MB (not sure what or why??)
-this is play store related, and necessary

Ice Cream Sandwich keyboard 22MB (seems very excessive for a keyboard)
I use Swype beta, it uses about half that ram

Which of these things can/should I change to save RAM??

i use ftl launcher
face book just sign in and then freeze with tb unfreeze when using or like LV said go through internet.
i use smart keyboard pro,(sorry no swype i don't think, i use voice) only 6mb
i use fast reboot pro (nothing else)(everytime phones asleep and wakes up is like a reboot) and always have at least 140+ mb ram free at all and anytime including 5 other apps like maps, weather underground, ect.... running at 25-30mb and all system stuff. and mines fast as it can be.

i also use cpu master pro for the overclocking and i setup all the pofiles, like chargeing, phone in sleep mode, ect... which also helps battery life.

i think your launcher is causing the screen outs!!

in your op i think you might have worded wrong or misunderstood something. the backups, i always told you to, do and make cwm backups, i didn't even know you were trying to use tb for entire system backups, we always say use tb for data, missing apps, freeze ect....

but first need to get phone stable before worrying about all this, start by maybe changing launcher (gonna have to reconfigure home screen though) with any launcher change.

take in everything, everone has some good advise to add. what works on my phone might not on someone elses, and so forth.

I somehow misunderstood the backup thing, but now that I got it straightened out that will help. As for the launcher, I originally installed ftl as you suggested, but I didn't like it. I don't remember at the moment why, but I didn't so went with Go Launcher. Do you really think that's what's causing the blackouts?

Google Services 9.8MB (not sure what or why??)

So, if I use play store, will deleting this mess anything up?
that has to stay, sorry!! any system stuff like settings, google, framework stuff, needs to stay, just so you know that stuff in settings/running, there is more that doesn't show up, that you can't see. other way to see all.

but need to focus on getting stable first, then tweak on things. took me a long while to get where i'm at, not over night.

Alright, so tonight I removed Go launcher and installed ADW. I also got a different keyboard and uninstalled Advanced Task Killer. I ran a backup in cwm, and as usual upon reboot I got the black screen. It promptly restored upon usb hookup to PC. I don't understand.
i don't understand that either??? maybe someone else has an answer??? everyone is going to sugjest, odin back to whatever you want ej06,fe16 or 19 whatever the hell they are. and then reinstall everthing from scratch. and as make progress make cwm backups and save to pc (me i do a backup after install, then when choose data or ssm, backup, then load apps, backup, then homepage- backup, ect...... ) if mess up then can always restore one step back and try something else and not have to go all the way back to beggining.
