ICS complaints/deal breakers.

Well, I must admit I think ICS is sweet, but are there any deal breakers that would make you go back to GB if you could?

As I read through all the new posts about ICS, I am starting to find myself researching more about how to do back to GB than work arounds.

Absolute #1 issue is the lack of the contacts tab in the dialer. This is almost mindblowing to me how much of a PITA it is to look up a contact while in the dialer. I know you can press the search key, tap to remove keyboard, then scroll, but are you joking? Blur already has a favorites widget, give me contacts instead in the dialer.

The lack of MMS if you change the txt shortcut on the lock screen is annoying, but I can live with it I guess. Not being able to change/ or add shortcust directly in settings is more disappointing. I also see quite a few posts about # of homescreen options. These are MAJOR options that are why people have been using costom roms for years. The people creating code for Moto are seriously overpaid if these things were not considered.

Lastly, & this is probably something on my part which I am trying to figure out. The keyboard is different. I'm not sure, but I think that GB had a better keyboard. It seems as if the old keyboard was larger, didnt it have a green light on the shift lock? The one I have currently lags horriably, spell check tabs at the top are different, and if I try to move the cursor its always off by about 10 spaces. It makes me want my OG Droid back...not really but its bad.

I'm. Not trashing ICS, but when I got ghis phone I was amazed at how everything just worked. I joked with my friends of how my days of romming were over, the battery was solid. I like the pull down notification bar during lock, and the unlock options, but it seems as I am not jumping through hoops just to use the phone. Time to go back to custom roms just to be a phone again.

ETA: I realize that there are spelling issues, it was to much of a Pain to get the cursor to behave to deal with

Also add:
- Adobe Flash does not work properly with ICS 4.0.4.
- The is still no control over the lighting on the 4 bottom fixed keys. The light goes out in dim areas making the keys hard to see. They stay on in dark areas when watching a video. We need an option for always on, always off, and perhaps a user selectable light level where they turn on/off.

***UPDATE*** All these problems I described below I had while the phone was plugged in charging (OEM Charger). I unplugged it and rebooted for good measure and no issues. Still not a good excuse for Android/Motorola in my opinion, but at least it's usable.

TouchScreen Unusable after updating... :\

I just updated my Razr to ICS and after the phone rebooted once the unpack and install completed the touchscreen is functioning horribly. Login Swipe works fine...after that it goes haywire. Clicking an app shortcut frequently launches other ones that aren't even close to it...

Text messaging, if I push 1 button, 3-6 others get pushed randomly across the keyboard.

If I manage to get a menu open sometimes I can't select any of the options...

Anyone have any insight? I've already tried rebooting a couple times.

Thanks

You do realize that when in the dialer just start typing someones name spelled out with t9 using the dial pad and it shows up. No need for the key board or search button at all

Yes, but it simply is not as smooth. An example, I happen to have 7 contacts in my phone that start with Mike. I open the dialer, press 4 keys to bring up Mike, (6453) before it shows up, then press the 7 matches tab, scroll to the one I am searching for and press the green phone. That's 6 presses to call mike x, before it was contacts/M/green phone next to desired Mike. That's 3 presses. Also, as mentioned, blur already has a favorites widget that i find easier, you would think a phone book would be SOP in a dialer.

wow. haven't made enough calls to realize this was missing, but you are 100% with this.

Major PITA. Same issue as you. Why would this not be in the dialer?!? Is there a place that google logs inputs for their own reading...

Not to mention that in theory a favorites tab seems practical, but the reality is that if you frequently call a number, you probably have a pretty good idea of what the number is. It is faster to type in the first few digits of a number which will auto populate results, then to select a favorites tab and scroll through it.

Flash, flash, flash and flash! Wtf that's the main argument and selling point over apple. Since ics adobe flash no longer works on all sites on the razr. Adobe said they are supporting the 4.0 but currently not all devices. If they say they are supporting the 4.0 then I would hope they release an update for latest flash for razr. Everything else is great. Takes some getting used to. Yea contacts not in dilaer is annoying but not a deal breaker. There are work around to most issues but flash is a HUGE problem.

I think alot of issues people are having is from lack of either a reboot or factory reset.

I cant speak for others, but I did do a reset and clear before the install. IMHO, and that's all it is, is that the issues people are seeing are largely in part to ICS being built for the Nexus. I had a Nexus, and there were differences in the core build of ICS. They rushed to get it onto the Razr and in doing so made a very useful device suspect. Its great to root, rom, and customize your phone, but there is alot to be said for a usable product out of the box.
This keyboard thing is driving me crazy. Another day of this and I will either smash this phone or put GB back on.

I know its not a deal breaker as far as replacing the Maxx, but is it enough to dump ICS? I firmly believe that the basics should be rock solid. I can live with flash issues, but afa a phone and texting device, we're far enough into the game there is no excuse for anyone to have issues what so ever.

I totally agree! Flash WAS a major selling point to me verses ios,now I'm just frustrated and honked off that I can't enjoy some of my favorite sites with flash anymore!

Id say take your phone back in that case. Id also say that ics is a great improvement to the majority of users.
Why do you think ics was built for the nexus? I dont see why you think that a completely new os would be built for a specific device.

This blew my mind as well. They took the whole contacts tab from the dialer and basically made it into the separate People app on the dock. Completely pointless and it seems a step backwards.

Only major issues I have is Flash and the 3G/CDMA only settings in Networks. For me....everything else is either a learning curve, 3rd party app now or works fine.

I do miss the separate toggles for Wifi, GPS, Airplane Mode. But I had Widgetsoid before I installed ICS so thats actually better since I have the toggles in the pull down shade. When my power went out....I couldnt connect to 4G, but I could to 3G. I had to use the LTE On/Off app to put it in CDMA only mode. It was a bad storm in the DC area this past weekend. That alone should tell somebody they need to put back the 3G/CDMA only settings.

I know you shouldnt have to do so, but if not having the contacts list in the dialer is that big a deal just use the people app and call from there. I really dont think its that much of an issue to have to press a couple more buttons.

@Jroc..Download the LTE On/Off app for the Thunderbolt from the market. You can use it on the Razr to toggle to just 3g. Working well for me so far

Use the people app instead of the phone app. It serves as both. From the people app touch the phone icon at the bottom middle of the screen to take you to the phone app. Then just press the back button if you want to return to the people app. Simple and convenient. I think it is a huge improvement.
