I have had the phone 16 days now. First week was okay but this last week my WiFi has just been loosing connection like mad. All the time I had to toggle it to get it going after sleep. And even then it would loose connection multiple time pr minute.

I found this post on XDA: xda-developers - View Single Post - SG3 Know Faults Thread

Basically what user 'Muskstick' suggests is going into service mode (*#0011#), hit menu button, select wifi and disable the power save mode.

It's been working normally ever since :)

Hi, basically as the title says i cant find any setting related to power savings for the wifi. I typed in *#0011# but not a single option said wifi even if i chose in the menu to go back and go to the main menu. Can you tell me exactly wgat was it that you did in order to get it to work? I as well am having the intermittent wifi problems. Thanks in advance

I dialed *#0011# pressed menu button (first picture) then selected WIFI and got to the next screen (second picture). I pressed the button so it says "Off". Hit back until I was back in the homescreen. WIFI has worked to my satisfaction ever since.

I am on the initial firmware 'xxxxxLE8

I switched off and restarted my phone and found the wifi problems had come back, when i checked i found this setting had reset itself back to 'on'.

[old statement]Strange, I have booted my phone atleast 4 times since I turned off 'Power save' and I haven''t had a single issue with wifi.[old statement]
EDIT: Not true - my settings are gone after reboot also (don't know why it wasn't before).

any degradation in battery life after doing this?
I haven't notised any either. It might be because I alwyas manually turn off WiFi when I turn off the phone - unless I am expecting an email I'd like to be notified about.

So if you restart your phone for any reason you'll need to go back and switch this 'off'.

I'm currently having the exact same problem. Also, whenever I connect to a new WiFi network, I have to do the same again. It's frustrating, especially considering I'm out and about and connecting to different hotspots regularly. I have now had 3 S3's, none of the previous two had this problem. (First was chipped when I opened the box, second kept vibrating constantly then crashing and either rebooting or turning itself off.)

Congratulations and thank you, solved my problem, really works, but every time you remove the battery from the device it is necessary to redo the procedure.

What a screwed up from Samsung!

I am new to Android, having just bought my wife a Samsung Galaxy SIII on Bell (Canada). It has Android 4.0 on it.

We have had it for a couple days now, and notice when we are at home it will sometimes drop the wifi network. Even when the wifi screen shows the network with a strong signal, it won't reconnect unless we turn off wifi and turn it back on.

I haven't been able to diagnose when/why it disconnects. I do not think it is any one particular app, or any period of time in use or not in use.

It is not an issue with the modem, router, or network in general as all our other connected devices do not seem to have an issue.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Help would be appreciated as I learn this new problem. We have both Windows and Mac in our house, so Android is new and we are looking forward to using it!

Some updated information. I turned off mobile data a day or two ago, leaving it wifi only.

On our home wifi, it will drop it every now and then. Never while in use, but after a period of time, when I go to use it, I notice wifi is gone. In the notification area, the wifi button at the top is highlighted bright green as if connected. If push that button, it goes dull green, indicating wifi turned off. However pushing it again, it will not turn back on. I have to go to Settings, and turn wifi on there. When I do, it turns on, and automatically connects to my home wifi network.

I have 30 days to return it in case it's a dud.

Anyone have any suggestions on this wifi dropping issue?

Here's one thread that found a fix for a few people...

http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s3/566171-wifi-issues-disconnects-etc-fixed-me.html

I don't have an S3 yet but on DroidX the wifi will essentially disconnect when it hasn't been used for a while and then reconnect when I bring the phone out of sleep mode, which takes 30 seconds to a minute to reconnect. When my power control widget shows a muted green it is normally when something is in the process of turning on but is not fully powered up and connected yet (like wifi or blue tooth). Once the radio is on and connected the power widget indicator turns a brighter green. Maybe your wifi is going into power save mode and when you bring the phone out of sleep mode the wifi has not finished powering up and reconnecting to the router yet. Again, I don't have and S3 yet (still waiting for mine to arrive) so this could all be nonsense.

There was also another thread where someone said assigning a static IP to the phone helped.

Hey Arkangil, Welcome to AF! I moved your thread into the Samsung Galaxy SIII forum, to hopefully get you help a little faster. Thanks for joining up!

And I merged it into this pre-established thread to bring you directly to a possible solution. Thanks for understanding :)
