Root Making ICS ROM For Connect/Esteem (Read it!)

I am very excited to have someone work on this. I look forward to the rom when it is done.

I would like for the rom to have better music support if that is possible.
The beats audio driver built in, and maybe, if the volume can be a bit louder than it is. Music seems a bit lower on this device no matter what rom I use, stock or Broken out.

Also Everyone , If you have a launcher or a keyboard that you extremely recommend , Tell us , We may need it .... We only want to know so if the ICS doesn't work... Then we will have a backup Plan

Also , I came across one problem in the Youtube app , When I tested in on the Connect , The app played the Video but I couldn't like , Comment , ETC
So We are working on that

The Browser youtube is working great though , No issues there

We won't put the MetroPCS , Other Carriers Bloatware , But if a lot of you want the same app (Free apps , Since a Paid app would be equal as using 4Shared to get a apk) We may put it but it can't be a app you made , unless if other like it then , yes

Also Here is the progress we have made during the night

1. Fix 3 Apps
2. Find many bugs
3. Add High Quality Icons to the default screen
4. Remove all lag in the Lock Screen
6. Add High Quality Icons to the Notification Bar
7. Fix Camera App so it Recognizes the Front-Facing Camera
8. ETC , Don't want to list it all

We will make a website where you can get the ICS ROM and get updates , This thread will not be needed soon as the website , will be a better place , to get more updates , Also (Can you post links on thread , or is that not allowed?)

So you have ics running? At the beginning you start covering your own rear end just in case it doesn't work, then later on you say you have it running with some minor problems. If its not running, how are you testing the apps, if it is running, why cover your rear end in case it doesn't? What are you using for the base rom? Aosp? CM9? A stock leak? A little more detail may get you a lot further.

OK, I have stayed out long enough....

1. A flashed theme CAN change your boot animation, lockscreen, ringers and darn near anything a rom can change visually.

2. Editing/hacking applications from ics to work on gb is not a rom (from what I have gathered That's what you're doing)

3. The connect and esteem are completely different so a dual phone rom should be nearly a gig download and has a good chance of major issues when flashing.

4. Until you post a booting ics kernel and source then people will question the validity of this rom

@Totenpoke , I meant a theme on something like Go Launcher EX , Not a theme like for every app , I meant just a launcher theme for Homescreens , Application list , Etc , Not things like GoSMS where you can put themes

4. I don't have a separate camera , I have other phones but guess what they are doing , Sleeping , and waiting to be sold (Not kidding) My friends have their phones with bits of ICS Rom so the camera on theirs is glitchy for now , But they don't use it

My ICS LG Connect cam is a bit less glitchy but a phone camera cant take pictures of a phone (Same one), now can it?

I will try the best for the bugs , Yes it is very complex , When I first picked up a android I said , "This looks easy" then it was hard.....

Nothing is perfect , It will have a flaw most likely or something that you won't like but everyone works around them , I am not the best person ever , nor , the best Android ROM maker

Also I already discussed that , I got the phone , and Wanted to learn , Every phone is different (unless they are like Evo , Evo 3D , Evo 4G , then not HUGE difference)

There's been a recent incident (and many in the past, I'm afraid) that has hopefully come to a resolution that I'm sure has made some members skeptical about the veracity of claims for an ICS ROM (not yours, mind you).

I would hope that our members would voice their concerns in a non-confrontational and respectful manner or simply wait for the results of your efforts to become available.

I think the skepticism you see here are from genuinely knowledgeable folks who would like nothing more than to see you be successful and add to the body of work that would benefit the entire LG development community.

Just a reminder to all folks to keep the discussion respectful and positive.

The character of a man is based off the quality of his work IMO (in any field and with any hobby)

I did make a suggestion about sound and raising the volume so that music can play a bit louder, and possibly having the beats audio driver native to the rom or something like that. Don't know if its possible, just thought I would make the suggestion.

You need to take a step back, and pay attention and stop posting your thoughts because they're seemingly invalid. Thinking that someone can't learn hyper speed is ignorant. I have successfully self taught c++, c, c+, c#, vb.net, asp.net, html,1-5, css 1&2, action script 1 & 2, flash, javascript, photoshop cs3-6, disassembling, hacking, debugging, and more to both myself, and others in the last ten years. It took me ONE year to learn everything that I've taught for the last nine years, and I'm now working on android based operations with *nix based programming, and have already in the first few weeks of my "learning" released a SHIT TON of helpful posts to people explaining how things work, how to use them, etc.

You are sitting here bashing someone just because you may not personally possess the capability to do what they can; and that's not right. On top of that there's the chance that he just may not have known anything about this phone. Just because he hasn't worked on ANDROIDS before doesn't mean he doesn't know *nix, or java which is almost 90% of what the phone runs off of.
I think honestly that you need to apologize to him, and every other individual on the forums simply because you probably just insulted half of the population here; and almost took the possibility of ICS out of the equation just because you're quick to jump to conclusions; and slander people.

And to you sir who created the forum, I wish you best of luck and hope to see your goal accomplished. I personally can't wait to see ics on our phone. i tried ti compile a rom but failed. But i am glad you and your friends are taking this big challenge I will be the first person to be a beta tester lol let use know when your ready with the rom

After wasting 2 MetroPCS crap headphone, i bought a Sony Headset for Android that works incredibly well and the volume is loud enough (can't keep to max!). The Dolby settings are not that good and i prefer the sound with Dolby de-activated.

I run the Broken Out rom.

Try using the method I posted about getting Beats to work with third party apps that utilize it native such as power amp.
You may notice a difference with it.

This is exactly why everyone is skeptical ... here are 3 other unmentioned or understated reasons.

1. Due to android being opensource knowledgeable users will not trust a dev (or dev team without a github, screens or some other shred of evidence.

2. Though a full team may have more luck working together things get muddled since everyone has a slightly different way of coding. I'm sure it can be pulled off but not that fast unless you are working on this as a programing class project or something.

3. I we have had themes try to be passed as roms before.....

Also....
The connect has about 500mb rom space and I'm no programmer but I'm sure that ics alone will take 350 or more for the connect alone without many preloaded apps or other goodies. Add the extra 350 for the esteem and APPS/wallpapers/ui audio etc and you are looking at about 800mb or 0.8gb


However, I'm giving you guys the benefit and rooting for ya!

Whenever you are going to make your rom run on both connect and esteem you can use aroma so users select exact what boot img and system files, but beware if a user unaware of what it is can brick there phone by selecting the wrong files. Just Google aroma installer. It will require a bit of coding, I already have a pre built already made, just ask me for some help if you need it.

If you are going to quit just because some negative people that shows weakness, don't let these people get to you, trust me I had to go through all this sh*t on my original rom, but look at me now, working on my fourth rom, people will hate, its as easy as ignoring them and just keep going, sorry for being an ass earlier didn't mean to unmotivate you.

I'm cheering and hoping for you to make a breakthrough with this project. You have my support.

But there doesn't TECHNICALLY have to BE anything preloaded. You can use deodexed apps and systemapp backup to install the ones that you want as system, then just delete the cache, and it should take care of that.
It'll still be a pin, but I think that the main thing to remember is that while they may/may not be working off ICS's framework it doesn't have to TECHNICALLY BE ICS. The same way windows 7 was built off of xp's APIs, and framework you could theoretically do the same with ICS, and ginger. It would just be a massive pain in the ass, and require a shit load of work.
