JuiceDefender Saves Batteries by Automating Android Data - Battery Life - Lifehacker

I just loaded this and the graph app from the market place, free. I won't need the paid version since it's on the charger at night and I don't use wifi.
Anyone use this? Looks pretty decent and the graph will be useful.
Any success? There is also a widget it comes with, but I will have to see what exactly it does.

I thought about getting it but some of the reviews said that the app itself used more power than it was actually saving. Maybe i should try it and see if it works.

I am giving it a shot.
The widget is nice, if accurate, as it shows a multiplyer of how much battery power is being saved. 1.37x is basically like saying your battery has 137% power in it when full.
If that makes sense.

Actually - after about a week (a little less) it's between 1.54 and 1.70 and I can tell it's not BS.

I just got the pro version. I hate when my battery gets low, so I thought 4$, what the heck. You get ALOT more features in the pro verson too...

There is night thing, every slider you can move, wifi stuff, etc. I think its worth it. 1.82x battery boost. As high as 2.24x

All I did was go to help >> enable "easy" mode and that did whatever... so does this just disable 3G and enable wifi? because websites are loading offly slow (my wifi sucks here)

^^Easy mode will save your battery alot alone. Advanced just lets you custom tweak everything. The reason I got the full version was for night mode and better wifi controls.

I don't know about the WiFi because I don't use it and my phone is on the charger at night. I shut off auto sync at night too.

Basically this program shuts off 3G for 15 minutes and enables it for 2 mins by default in the "easy" mode. Emails and such that use 3G come through every 15 mins for me.
Everything else works great for me, but I don't have the pro (no need for it).

Check the changelog as well, a link is found under "help" in the app. They recently added a tweak for streaming so there are minimal pauses.

there is a setting to have apn on when the backlight is on. so if you check your phone regularly you will get the emails faster then the configured intervals.

I can't rely on that. I'm on call, and on the run. While a good idea, it is not workable for me. I have to know that I'm going to get the email even when I don't check.

That's the default setting. I have that too and it works, but I understand some people need the constant push. I did when I used my BB for work.

The biggest savings I've had is turning Gmail off (using the power widget). I know that Juice Defender has a great idea, but I can't use it. If you can get away with 15 min polling time for email it is a great thing

If it means anything, its 5 min for full version.

The feature is actually a plus for me. I get so many emails in a day that it has to be detrimental to my phone. I receive multiple messages with in 15 minutes, so only updated once every 15 should help. I added this app today. I have been messing with some other new apps, so I don't know how much I'll save today, but will be interested in seeing how it fares. I usually unplug at 7 am and rarely can make it to 10 pm with out some kinda charge in between.

used it for a few days now and am very happy with it. if you use the 'chart' app with it make sure u exclude it from any task ending programs or it will just keep reseting and you won't see any results. it's great because it can predict how many hours you have left on your phone and how long your phone is staying at a particular battery%

i get an average of 1.75 increase increase in battery life - as long as im not doing any heavy duty stuff on it the battery seems to last forever.

i am now considering on upgrading to the paid version but i would like to know -- what exactly is 'night' mode do? and what about wifi? what other features does it give over the non-paid version?

i just downloaded the pay version today and was reading the help and faqs pages. night mode is handy if you don't/can't charge your phone every night. i'm pretty sure that what it does is turn off the wifi (if enabled), gps, and syncing. Since you're sleeping you don't need those constant updates and these services are shut off. (you can set the times that your phone will do this)

i think the wifi feature enables the phone to automatically switch from using the network to download/web browse/etc, to using a recongnized wifi signal (which is generally faster). for example: if you have wifi at home then it can switch automatically to using your home wifi when you step through the door.

I figured I would give the free version of this app a shot. If it works, great, if not, oh well.

One thing I did do though, is turn off the charging APN profile. After all, who cares if it is saving you power. Also, I don't want to see any "false" improvements on battery life.
