Galaxy S2 - what is really going on? (Virgin Canada)

I have a galaxy s2 i1900m from virgin Canada. My phone is not showing 4g only 3g. According to the map there is coverage here. Are there different versions of the phone? Is there a switch to use? I'm confused. I thought when I bought it it had 4g is advertised as 4g... does it really matter?

Just got off the phone with virgin mobile and was told that there is no galaxy s2 4g phone. It only almost has 4g capabilities. MAKES NO SENSE. The virgin web site advertises it as a 4g phone but it can't do true 4G?? I"m even more confused than I was before.

Virgin Mobile USA and Virgin Mobile Canada are two completely different companies. They aren't related in any way other than the fact that they share a brand name. ;)

I can't find the VM Canada forums here.. perhaps someone else knows where they are.

From what I can see, they have put all the Virgin Mobiles together in one forum, despite the fact that each country's VM is a separate company.

That's just entirely too confusing. How can we be sure we are giving the proper help information? It's rare that anyone volunteers their precise carrier information and it becomes monotonous to keep asking. :(

I love these forums, but I feel this is a mistake.

Kind of like the Galaxy Nexus forum where you don't know if they are talking about the GSM or CDMA version of the phone.

Except for the Wildfire S I'm not aware of any overlap between VMUSA using CDMA and VM Canada using GSM exclusively.

I think you missed my point. I was pointing out how on, at least two forums here, there are issues where it can be hard to determine exactly what a person is complaining about, since you have different "things" with the same name.

In Virgin Mobile's case, you have the different companies with the same name; often people don't specify between VM USA, VM Canada, or one of the other six Virgin Mobile brands (Australia, Chile, France, India, South Africa, or UK). Many times people don't specify their phone, only say that they are having an issue with VM.

On the Galaxy Nexus forum, there are two phones that are very similar but have some differences. Beyond the CDMA vs. GSM difference, the CDMA phone is 32GB to 16GB for GSM, the CDMA has a larger battery though typically a shorter battery life, etc. On top of this, they often have different Android versions (currently the GSM has Jellybean and the CDMA has ICS). So, people will complain about an issue and it can be hard to know which version of the phone they are talking about, which can effect the answer to their issue.
