Hi everyone, I just got my G3 on Sunday. The battery dies pretty fast, and it says that appx 45% of battery usage is for standby?? I downloaded a task killer and when I go to it, its like 30 things are running. I kill them all but then I go back and they are running again. I have my backlight turned down, my voice and motion off. If someone can help about how I can improve the life of my battery, or how to disable things that come with the phone that I dont use? I am with rogers if it makes a difference. Oh and how do I switch from a 4g network? thanks for your help in advance. :)

Welcome to the forums. First, uninstall the task killer. This will do more harm then good, if you don't know how to use it. If you want to stop apps. from running, go to menu> settings> applications> running services and stop the apps you don't want running. Be very careful when you do this, because some apps work with other apps and if you stop them, you might get a force close. Make sure that wifi and bluethooth is off when not in use. If you have scheduled email and social media updating, make sure its for at least every few hours or update them manually yourself. Since your phone is new, sometimes you have to discharge and fully recharge the battery a few times before you start getting good battery life. Hope this helps.

45% of battery usage being used for standby doesn't mean standby used up 45% of your entire charge. It means that for the duration from last full charge and you checking, that was the percentage of used charge that went to standby. A phone on idle with of course have a lot going to standby. If a phone straight from full charge was used to play a game for an hour, then that game would be the biggest user.

Thank you for your help guys! I uninstalled the task killer. I think the battery life has improved after a few charges. The problem I seem to be having now is my settings! When I go into language and input, it closes and says "Unfortunately, settings has stopped." And I have to wait the 10-15 seconds before it pops up before I can do anything with the phone. Did I get a dud?

The cell radio does use a LOT of power, whether the battery % is a bug or not I don't know...

My battery only dropped 2% in three hours this morning. O2 was having problems and I had no connection for either voice or data. Usually I'd have dropped about 10% by then at least.
What do you mean by O2? Sorry I'm not familiar with all the terms. I'm with Rogers... right now my battery is at 2%, 45% is cell standby and 15% screen, 12% android system. It has been on for 1 day and 6 hours.
