Predictive text

Just consider that the smartest keyboards actually replace words and correct your typing based on your most frequently used words. They can be pretty smart and greatly increase your typing speed. But if you want this kind of no-prediction keyboard, you should be able to disable the HTC keyboard's autocorrection in its settings under Language and Keyboard.

All you have to do is add those words to the dictionary, which is as easy as typing them then selecting the actual word you're trying to type from the suggestions area. That should add it to the phone dictionary.

All you have to do if you really want to turn off autocorrect is go to settings, language and keyboard, then hit the settings button to the right of the default keyboard. it's in there, just go to text input and uncheck prediction as well as spell correction and word completion. that should do it. and for the love of god, don't use HTC's keyboard, they make it impossible to put simple things such as exclamation points or question marks, which should appear in the suggestion area when the suggestion area isn't being used for suggestions, but that doesn't even happen.

to be able to turn off predictive text (that's shaded) FIND TRACE KEYBOARD, go to its' options and TURN OFF TRACE KEYBOARD, then you'll be able to turn off predictive text

I had to make an account just to get on here to personally thank wyldwyll!

I am sure you all mean well ,but it is incredibly frustrating when you are looking for an answer and everyone just tell you 'why they didn't do the same'. My fiancee and I just upgraded to the HTC Evo V 4G about a week ago and have been trying to figure out how to turn off the predictive text since we got it. The guide from HTC and Virgin Mobile both say the same thing and then when you tell them it is 'grayed out' they argue with you until they tell you that you will need to return the phone to be serviced. Apparently, the version Sprint had was revamped a bit before being handed over to Virgin (since Sprint got a ?better version; in their opinion), So, it is these 'updated' ones from HTC that need trace turned off while the older versions will let you turn off predictive text; which auto turns off the trace feature.

Regardless if you agree or not with someone people need to learn to read what they are asking completely and either help them or leave them be. Your opinion is appreciated, but I cannot count how many forums I have been on that have done this exact same thing. Someone asking this and a million replies of why not to turn it off and/or how to do it if it wasn't grayed out. I am sure that I will draw a lot of flames for this post, but think about it if you were in these peoples positions and wanting this info so badly.

Again, THANK YOU wyldwyll and know that there are hundreds of people out there looking for this answer and it seems you are the only person that knows this... HTC, Sprint, and Virgin sure and heck don't!
