Best way to backup my phone for an OS uprade?

So I'm getting ready to do my ICS upgrade. But after reading a lot of comments on the boards, it seems like the best thing for me to do is do a factory reset after the upgrade. This kind of undoes all the great benefits of an OEM upgrade, but so be it.

With that, I want as seamless as an upgrade as possible. I'd like all of my settings restored (or as much as possible), and all of the apps restored (along with their state / levels - i.e., Angry Birds, etc.).

I recognize that many apps have their own backup settings. That could take forever to do each one individually. Would be far better if there was a common directory I could just backup and then re-apply in ICS.

Any suggestions appreciated.
Thx.

I have Titanium Backup Root, so maybe that's all I need? I'll try My Backup Root as well (since it's free). Thanks for this. The Google setting I believe *should* work but the problem is it's not mandatory that every app code to its spec, so it's only as good as each app's ability to utilize the Google backup system or not (i.e., it's not a reliable system IMHO).

You could try My Backup Pro - Trial Version

ETA: Maybe someone can confirm this, but are the apps be backed up/restored automatically if you have it checked off under the Backup and Reset menu?

Titanium Backup is the program I use to restore apps. Free version is a pain since you have to do each app individually. You can do a automatic batch restore with the paid version. I use My Backup Root to restore sms/mms and the call log. Never had an issue with either program.

Thanks for the info about the Google backup. Was never sure how reliable it was, but I never used it either. Figured there would be some kind of issue with the app data.
