Nexus One Today!?

I (as well as others, I'm sure) have been anxiously awaiting today, the day rumored to tout the arrival of Google's Nexus One for customers of Verizon. I've been fretting over the news feed provided by my Google search of "Nexus One Verizon today?" and have obtained some complicated feelings.

World Buzz Now states the Nexus One is officially available for $529 unlocked compatible with Verizon's network; however nothing Verizon nor Google's websites confirm this claim. Assuming this is true (other websites are toting the same information), does this mean there will be no subsidized pricing option for the phone with VZW? And is it even possible that these sites (WBZ and others citing them) could announce the sale of the N1 on Verizon while neither Verizon nor Google

since it had always been speculation and rumor and no one ever confirmed that the N1 was being released today AND since google's nexus one website says nothing about ordering a Verizon compatible N1....

i say we just breathe and wait until we actually know something.

Well, I love everything about Android; the customization, the integration with Google and the overall look and feel. The Droid being the best Android phone available with VZW, I was planning on buying it the second my T-mobile contract ended. After researching, I realized the N1 just fit me better - enough worth waiting for.

Firstly, I like the design much better. The Droid is a great phone, and I'm a person who actually finds the angular design attractive, however I just found the N1 design much more appealing. I'm willing to live without a physical keyboard and therefore would choose a slimmer phone lacking one over the same phone, just wider with one. That is not to say the phones are the same, of course, I was just being hypothetical.

Secondly, I want more responsiveness than is seen on the Droid. My initial statement about loving Android was provoked by the one thing I dislike about it; I can't help but compare Android phones to the iPhone because they all lack the responsiveness of the iPhone's screen. However, reviews I've seen of the N1 have lead me to believe that this phone, with its 1 Ghz processor, HTC manufacturing, and other internal improvements will get as close to the iPhone's responsiveness as possible.

Thirdly, the internal improvements seen in the N1 also provide greater speed in downloading and browser use, something very important to me when choosing the phone I will most likely have for at least the next year. In Wifi comparisons, the N1 trumps the Droid (and iPhone, for that matter), most likely due to its improved internal hardware. I'm assuming the 3G comparisons of the Droid and N1 (where the Droid almost always triumphs) will be considered null once the phone goes to Verizon.

Lastly I'd also like to make it clear that this was a response to why I would choose the N1 over the Droid, not the HTC Incredible. Please don't flame me on how the Incredible has the processor, lacks the keyboard, and so on and so forth.

I just spent the past 1/2 hour or so web searching and I can find nothing. To me it appears to be unsourced nonsense possibly in an effort to generate web traffic. "No scoop? Let's make one anyway!"

Really, until we see something from verizonwireless.com or google.com, it's all heresay. Well... unless it's Engadget or BGR. A site with a good reputation.

Well this day sure didn't turn out the way I had expected. At first I was sure that the N1 would be available in stores. I would take off work today and show up at my local VZW store about an hour before they unlock the doors (like I did for my 9530 Storm). Buy my shiny new N1 and spend the day playing around with all the new stuff I could do on it.

What happened instead was a dramatic drop in my productivity at work as I sat on google.com/phone hitting F5 all day long. Oh well. I guess tomorrow will be no different.

That article is full of questionable comments and grammatical errors. For instance;

Huh?? That sentence alone is enough for me to call BS on the entire article.

You know....I'm starting to seriously not like Verizon anymore. I'm sick of them always having some ridiculous reason or absolutely no reason(silence), as to why they can't get this now almost outdated phone on their network?! When originally announced it was T-mobile/AT&T edge, and Verizon in the spring......now every other major carrier has it with 3G, and Big Red is still up in the air without any particular reason, that they care to share, with the many customers that have been eagerly awaiting this release. Why does the Moto Droid 2.1 update keep getting announced, and then pulled back at the last minute? Why does the Eris still have 1.5? Why did Verizon not carry the IPhone from the start when they were asked? I'm starting to think that their arrogance might truly be their downfall.

As the top network right now, they should have the best phones, and should be much faster in regard to their phone updates.

In reality, they have maybe the 4th or 5th best phone, and are awful with communicating with us what is planned and when we as faithful customers will be getting what.

At&t sucks, but they are way smarter than Verizon.....they accepted the IPhone.....

Sprint has been coming out of who knows where, and now they offer the top phone period with the HTC EVO 4G.......and the most fair rates.....

T-mobile had the Nexus One first.....

Verizon has the clunky and outdated Droid.....not horrible, but certainly not an HTC EVO......and I haven't heard of them developing anything even close to the EVO? The Incredible/the Nexus One.....come on.....nice phones, but not the EVO.....if they ever finally come to Verizon at all....

Oh yah, they announced some stupid LG messaging phone today.....circa 2001. What....???

If they don't shape up soon I'm done.....

It's not exactly a stretch for World Buzz Now (whoever they are) to announce that the N1 will be $529 unlocked... Google is already selling it for that price on AT&T. Don't imagine they will charge more to Verizon or Sprint. This is not news. Got my hopes up too, stupid WBN.

I might have gone with the Incredible had it launched today but I'm tired of waiting. So I bought an ATT N1 today. The Verizon N1 doesn't make as much sense. It's not a world phone like the N1 is. The N1 already has a good hacking community and with the Desire coming out will only get better.

Most people want the N1 because it has great hardware AND bc they will get updates instantly, instead of waiting like Sense users will be. Plus you can flash any ROM (Sense included). I also think VZW and ATT users want the N1 now, so when they roll out their 4G onto smartphones early next year, N1 users would have had their phones a good amount of time to justify the $500 and look into 4G phones.

thats a fair opinion. no flaming, i was seriously asking your reasoning. i would just encourage you to play as much as you can rather than making a decision based off of reviews. after being a vzw customer for 12 years, i was dead set on my decision. everything i do outside of my job is apple based. i KNEW i was gonna be an iphone user, my wife and i were prepared to make the jump to att. before my contract was up but my new every 2 was available, i dropped my blackberry in some water and it died. i had to decide. after a whole weekend spent in my local vzw store, i got a droid. i still have ipod touches in the house and close friends with iphones. i honestly have not thought twice about regretting getting the droid over the iphone. while i use apple hardware, all software i use is google based, so i knew what to expect.

my droid is just as responsive as any iphone or ipod touch i have had my hands on.

to say that the N1 is the only phone that can compete with the iphone is simply buying into mass media hype. while the N1 has the snapdragon processor, have you read about the problems people are having with the screens? have you read about the problems people are having with 3G connectivity and signals? every phone has its flaw.

i seriously doubt you will be buying your phone at a vzw store at all. dont waste a vacation day taking off from work.

a bug was found that was related to the company that handles the mass OTA updates. vzw didnt want to experience huge network problems accordingly. far from ridiculous.

its march 24th. spring started 4 days ago! they have 3 months to release the phone and they will still meet their promise of spring 2010. calm down.

Because Apple demanded that they control the service and distribution of the iPhone on day one. This was a non-negotiable for VZW. it was going to be a phone on VZW's network, so VZW wanted to have a say in the distribution of a product. no one knew how game-changing the iphone was going to be so VZW made a business decision. hind sight is ALWAYS 20/20.

ATT was desperate because they were getting spanked by VZW. ATT no longer wanted to be the no.2 carrier. guess what? they are still no. 2

Sprint has a very aggressive campaign to gain some ground and try to dethrone att and verizon as no. 1 & 2 in the game. yes they have 4g available right now. WiMax is a technology that can be built over the top of current 3g technologies. LTE cannot. naturally WiMax can be available sooner as everyone else has to backhaul the infrastructure of their networks to get ready for LTE. just for the record, both ATT and Verizon chose LTE. why are you only hating on for VZW for this?

I think you are done with VZW no matter what. you are just plain hating. thats fine, there is no flaming and no problems with that, but i think they are some things that you are just grasping at here to hate on VZW with.

If the increased speed / productivity over the next six months can save me even 1 hour then it was a great investment for a $500 phone. I'll get a new one in six months. The decision not to buy the phone (in my case) seems silly or foolish.

I am a business owner in the finance arena and I also invest in real estate and other hard assets. I work only when I choose as I have executives that run my companies and a personal assistant that handles most of my personal stuff. Communication and research are very important to what I do. Having a fast and dependable phone with Exchange pushed email, a great internet browser, contacts, and my calendar are crucial to my prodcutivity and lifestyle. I have been a Blackerry customer for about 10 years and I am looking forward to getting an Incredible or N1 when released. If a significantly better phone is out in 6 months or sooner, I will not have a problem switching to it.

As for the mooching part- I am very generous to others but I usually give anonomously through charities that I select. In an effort to keep this on topic, I would be happy to suggest some books that would be beneficial to creating your own wealth if you would ike to PM me.

Normally, I would totally agree with you. Except for my current situation. I have a iPhone. It cannot make calls or surf the internet reliably. Now normally, it is just a major annoyance. But since I'm starting up the whole job search thing, I don't want a employer to call me 7 times and not get a response. Or to have the signal cut out 5 times during a 5 minute conversation. If somebody is calling me up to schedule an interview, I'd like to a) receive the call and b) complete the call without "call failed" and without static.

So as much as I'd like to get a N1 or Incredible, I may be forced to just switch to a Droid. And with Amazon selling it at $20, with a $20 dock, and a 2nd Motorola battery for $13, and none of the issues of the N1, it's not a bad compromise for not getting the latest and greatest.
