Hrm I wonder why it only works with some phone carriers (sprint) and no others when it comes to smart phones.... Just assumed it had something to do with data.
I think it only works at stores that have Mastercard paypass set up. I don't think a data connection is necessary. It works just like if you tapped your real life Mastercard. Your card info would be stored on your phone. I've never used this though because I don't even think this service is currently offered in Canada by Google.
So I put my phone into airplane mode, to simulate opening the Wallet app as if I was going to use an N7 at a place which did not have WiFi.
Wallet needed an internet connection to open...
...so does this mean that we would need internet connectivity before leaving a WiFi hotspot before walking into a 7-11? I think so...
...and the longest Wallet can stay timed-in is 30.
Makes me wonder how valuable Wallet is on a WiFi tablet???

$10?? How come google didn't advertise this? The most logical way to try this that I could figure out was McDonald's since they have the paypass terminals AND wi-fi. I couldn't get the Wallet app to work well enough to pay with it on the N7 though on my first try. I'll have to try it again at some point. (I just can't leave that $10 laying there. )
NFC wallet payments don't need an internet connection. The transaction works the same as a paypass credit card does. You simply tap your paypass card or NFC/wallet compatible device on the terminal, and the terminal calls up the account and says "deduct $5 from account 12345". Just like a regular credit card.
See, I know what you are saying is true, but when I tried to open Wallet without a data connection, it didn't work. So the tech does work without a data connection, but how does one access a PIN protected app, which in my experience with the GNex, has always required a data connection to initialize?
Not trying to be combative, but I couldn't use GWallet the other day with my GNex in airplane mode.

Did you try a 2nd time yet? Please go back and try to buy some mcnuggets. I can't wait to try this out but am afraid looking like a complete loon as I blindly tap the tablet on the counter. So there IS an app for this, OK, good to know.
Oh, and I'm not looking forward to lectures from little old ladies about the Mark Of The Beast...avoid...
will nfc wallet work in the uk
