Can a Nandroid backup restored safely to this new phone?

Hi, I found myself in the ultimate nightmare situation - I lost my DINC (the original) - let's just say it ended up somewhere on a busy and dangerous highway in the rain! The phone was rooted, and of course the original wasn't 4G. Now I'm not sure whether I can restore my apps and Nandroid backup (at least that's what I think was done in ClockworkMod Recovery) to the phone I have now (Incredible 4G LTE).

Droid Incredible, Verizon
3G
Gingerbread
Rooted

New Phone:
Droid Incredible 4G LTE, Verizon
4G
Ice Cream Sandwich
Not Rooted until somebody cracks it for Verizon

I need to recover what I have lost fairly soon, and am a little troubled that I have not yet seen a root solution for my phone with Verizon. My recovery solution would be somewhat less scary if my current phone was rooted because I've seen how well the backup and restore functions work in ClockworkMod Recovery. I have considered trying out Nandroid Browser to restore my ClockworkMod backup, and it apparently doesn't need root to work (don't know that for sure). I'm beginning to doubt whether this makes any sense as I write this, but anyway

1. Has anyone tried using any such apps for restoring Nandroid backups from an Android session? Do any work well on an un-rooted phone?

2. I'm starting to doubt if this question makes any sense as I write it, but can it be possible to restore a whole system when you don't have the root?

3. am I right to expect Ice Cream Sandwich will immediately to be pushed to my phone, which shipped with it? If not, will the 4G LTE run safely on Gingerbread?

4. Do I need worry that a recovery from an older phone may have any impact on 4G functionality, or other hard-coded functions which I hope are protected from Android?

5. I understand that some of my rooted apps won't work until I am able to root my phone, and I'll just have to live with that. As for Verizon bloatware being lost, can I hope for that (none of that is on the backup)?

Any help is appreciated, and if you have any updates on when (or if) the Verizon Incredible LTE will be rooted, this will help me decide whether I need to go find a phone which is more popular (somewhat dismayed how bigger alone always sells).

I believe a nandroid backup is a image of your operating system, so i dont think tryin that would be a good idea if it did work. Titanium backup is a backup of apps and settings and i dont think that would work either. The google play store keeps a list of all apps you have ever loaded on your phone, so go to the play store, find that list and load what you want.

Nandroid backup is NOT going to work. A nandroid backup is a brick level backup that isn't going to have the hardware drivers for the 4g in it. You will almost certainly brick your phone and your best case scenario you'll have instability issues.

If you've got a TB backup of your old phone, you can root the Incredible 4G and restore the user apps to it.

Alternatively, you can ship the Incredible 4g to me and I'll send you my rooted DInc.

I'll spare you my thoughts on google play for now, but this raises the question of why google never remembers all of my downloaded apps, and in this case remembered NONE prior to losing my original phone! All of them were downloaded under the same username. None were sideloaded, and all of those which I had paid for (their were quite a few of these, and I doget billed again. Problem is they aren't listed under "my apps", and that really aggravates a huge pia!

This phone has to go - it heated up while I typed this, the keys drop arbitrarily from under your fingers, and the back button deletes what it wants to no matter what the cursor says. On top of this Ice cream sandwich is shit-avored. Not just bloatware, but ad-pitching bloatware which clutters up your screen by creating its own icons, plus there's a whole lot more. Just installed my homescreen go launcher, which can no longer uninstall (yes, some were capable of this in other Androids) unwanted apps directly from the screen. Are you sure u want it now?

I guess ill have to deal with my problems caused by losing the old phone from the ground up. 3G on Verizon will only slow down more, and market apps will be more bloated each time they update.

Wow, I don't see any others having issues like this, or maybe it just doesn't bother them? Heating Up? I would take it back to Verizon and get a replacement first, before I would just give up all together.

My offer of my DInc still stands if you're that fed up with the phone. If you are fed up with VZW service there are other carriers out there who may work out better for you.

I'm sorry, but I went and traded it in before you replied. My original DINC was a better phone for it's time, but it has really slowed down, and this one is very quick. There's a bit more which I'm not particularly crazy about on this one than on the original, but I can't afford not to be future-proof when forced to take another 2-year contract because I don't have a land line.
