TF300 vs TF700

I'm sure the question has been posed before.

Looking at the differences, I'd like to know from the users if TF300 is a better value at it's price.

The big differences I can see for the Infinity is the Aluminum body, the rear led flash, the higher resolution, the super IPS and gorrila glass 2 screen.

So let me know your opinions. Do these features make up the difference in price? Would I get a heck of a machine and a great value going for the TF300, or do I splurge a little and get the newest device in the transformer line?

Which would be better for the long run?

IMO, the higher resolution can actually be a detriment, which is why I went with the 300 to begin with. Most apps are NOT designed for tablets and large, HD devices, so they look blurry; this is exacerbated on a screen with even higher resolution like the 700. I'm not watching movies on my 300, so do I need to see news papers, websites and my email in 1080p? Probably not. I'm being facetious, of course, because I don't think the 700 is 1080, but you get my point... it all depends on what you're using it for.

Also, Gorilla glass is still glass and there are many examples of it being scratched and damaged on Spectrums and Razrs, so take it's more like a marketing ploy. I plan on getting a screen protector when I get around to it, which is far more effective than spending extra on Gorilla Glass.

For me, the 300 made sense, because I'm not gaming or watching movies; I'm doing email, web and some discussion, but nothing that requires crazy high resolution. Since most apps and widgets look blurry on the 300 because they're designed for smaller devices, I'd imagine they look even worse on the 700.

Not to mention the gpu struggles too. Simply adding a higher clock, but same gpu is not the best fit. 1280x800 is the real comfort zone as far as Tegra 3 efficiency.

Also would like to know, how do you feel about the plastic on the machine? I hear it's not that bad, but is it in any way good?

Tablets are like smart phones, they feel super fast when you get them, but in 2 years you are going to want to upgrade. I bought my TF300 for $380 shipped from Amazon and LOVE it. Does everything I want it to do. In 2 years, I will probably be ready for a new tablet, and since I only spent $380 I can pass it to my kids and buy me a new one. I personally do not see any reason to pay over $100 more for the TF700. The higher resolution in my opinion on a 10 inch tablet is mostly a marketing gimmick. I doubt this will become your main home theater display device. The plastic back does not feel bad at all, most people keep them in a case anyway.

My only concern with it, as with any tablet, is the battery. Are the batteries as shite as on phones? If so, it raises concerns for when it stops holding a charge like before. Unfortunately, we can't get a new battery when it craps out, but please correct me if I'm wrong... This is my first tablet.

Funny that you talk about the thing being out of date in a couple years. That's actually why I was thinking of doing the TF700 in the first place. It's a step above the TF300, so should last me longer right? I'd love to replace my devices every couple year, but truth is, I can't afford to do so. So I have to stretch it out as long as I can, TF700 could spare me several months.

Also in relation to the same post, if price was not an issue would you think the Infinity a better buy? Would you trade the TF300 straight up for a TF700? Why

Lastly,...for now, How are the speaker(s) on the TF300. I haven't heard many good things about the sound on the Infinity.

Im sure the battery will become replaceable just as the iphone and ipod have become.

Is it possible for the average user to change them out? I saw in another thread that it's a bit involved just to get the back off the tablet.

Well since you say price is a concern (as it is for most of us), the TF300 is much better option. Amazon has the 32 gig model for $379 shipped plus no tax. The T700 is $500 shipped. So if you were to buy the TF300, and save the $120, that is quite a savings. Plus tablets are getting cheaper. Who knows where we will be in 2 years. The speakers are awesome (I have 2 TF300s, wife has her own). I have used mine several times to stream Pandora while working late and the sound is awesome. Also, I travel for work allot and watch allot of TV shows and movies on my TF300 and they look awesome. I bought MX Player from the google play store and I have yet to find anything it does not play. I just really do not see a reason to pick the 700 over the 300.

After much thought I picked the 300 over the 700. Staples had a 10% off coupon which was good for one day only, and they didn't carry the 700. It came down to the Nexus7 or the 300. I went with the 300.

I do have the budget to update my hardware regularly, but I'm also a dealfinder. For me the 300 was a better deal. I had the TF101 and did not care for the metal case. It makes for a heavier, harder feel. The 300's plastic body is just easier on the hands.

Higher resolution is a gimmick Apple started with their "retina display". Truth is on a small 10" screen you aren't going to notice the performance difference. It only becomes an issue when you are looking at a "retina" desktop or zooming in to do detailed drawing. In that case, I prefer switching from the meager processor ability of a mobile tablet to a full featured quad core desktop.

The 700 is a great device, but I passed on it because it was overkill for me needs. I do prefer a Transformer to any other 10" Android tablet out there. Having the keyboard dock turns this into a truly unique device.

I never understood the "look at my 1080p video on my 10" screen!" It's like me handing you an example of my 20 megapixel camera, on a 4x6 photo.

Unless you are hooking it up to the TV, I didn't see the value in it.

I actually ended up getting the 700. The 300 has it's place, and is a great value at it's price. But I will say this, the display is no gimmick. This thing looks sweet. I expect future tablets to head in the full HD direction, I think the 700 is leading the way. And as far as performance, I think the gpu handles it just fine. I've had no hiccups to date, and couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Both are great machines, but what it comes down to is the value. My work bought it, so I didn't worry about price. The 300 is a better value at it's price, but the 700 is a better device overall.

I'm still on the fence, since the 300 has now come down to $349 (BB).
I was totally sold on the 700T, but since I bought a 300 for my daughter and have played around with it, now I'm not sure.
But your post has me leaning back towards the 700T. I'll buy one or the other in the next few weeks. If I buy the 700, it will be the champagne. 300 will be the blue.
In either case, I now doubt that I will buy the keyboard. I really don't think I will use it that much.

If you mainly use your tablet for web, images, video and some Android games, the 700 seems a good option. Not so if you play game emulators. The 700 is significantly slower with game emulators- especially N64, PSX and MAME Reloaded.

Old school gamers should probably avoid the 700 and stay another planet from the Acer tablet, since even slower.

Same gpu and that is the problem. Game emulators like n64, psx and MAME are slower.
