Root [GUIDE] How to Root the HTC One V

it seems that he didn't set the environmental variables as part of the SDK tools guide step 10 so cmd wasn't able to find fastboot. My guide assumes that you've done this.
Correct, I didnt. I swear half of that lot wasnt there when I looked at it. More likely I got to Linux & switched off... I was trying to get to the Dragon boat racing, oh well 6 hours late & it had finished :(

Never mind, my phone is succesfuly rooted :) Thanks again.

Hey, don't know if you want to add this to your guide or not, but I'll post it anyways.

For Mac users:
It's the exact same process. You're just using Terminal instead of Command Prompt. And you have to remember to add "./" in front of your commands.

So "fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin"
becomes "./fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin"

Literally the only difference. HTCdev has all the files you need for unlocking the bootloader. Just follow the instructions with terminal, keeping in mind to add "./" to your commands. It's that easy.

Yes, I use iStuff. To each their own.

These instructions are great! I'm new to android rooting (I used to be really into psp custom firmware and the homebrew stuff though) I'm stuck in the same boat that Ssscrudddy and chefleon were in. I can get the cwmrecovery.img to run (but only displays the logo when I select anything) I've tried flashing the img file from both "C:\Users\Dan\Documents\HTC ONE V UNLOCK" and also from the platfor tools folder "D:\Programs\android-sdk\platform-tools"

I'm confused as to how they both got passed this problem. Please help!

It seems to me like you did not get the custom recovery flashed. Try doing step 4 over again.

new to htc one v had a optimus v but anyway i got it unlocked and rooted just cant get recovery to phone when using fastboot flash recovery recovery.img just get error cannot load 'recovery.img' and when reboot into recovery get phone and then a phone and a red triangle with and excamation mark and ideas

Is your recovery file named recovery.img? And is it in the same subdirectory as fastboot.exe?
If you don't have extensions showing then it would be recovery and fastboot for the file names.

when i submit token to htcdev .. they reply

We're sorry, but it appears your attempt to unlock the bootloader on this device has failed. This could be caused by several factors including simple errors in the entry of the unlock token, problems with your device, or a lack of manufacturer support for the unlocking process. Please see the specific error code listed below, and try again if necessary.

Error Code: Invalid Bootloader Token Length.
Error Reason: The submitted Token appears to be the wrong length and won't work.

plz help !!!!!:eek::eek::eek:

at step 4 ... do i have to put recovery-clockwork-5.8.4.5-primou.img anywhere or in the Android folder which i made earlier for the fastboot stuff ... when i kept it outside android folder it says
'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

that means i have to put it in the android folder right ???

So I've been searching for a bit trying to find a good recovery image for my CDMA HTC One V (Virgin Mobile USA). I just can't seem to find one. The link on the original post here is no good, I keep getting errors off of it. Access denied a few times, then I finally got through to a countdown page, and got another error. Any other links I can try? Thanks!

**OO! Finally got through. Looks like they may have been having some server trouble or something. Hip-hip!

Ok, so I successfully flashed the cwmrecovery.img. However, I cannot figure out how to make any selections in this menu. Obviously, as this isn't a touch recovery, the touchscreen isn't an option. However, the power button isn't working to select menu options either. I know on my old Optimus, it was the camera button (contrary to all the tutorials save one). However, this phone literally only has two buttons - volume rocker, and power. So...What should I do? I tried a few other recovery images, to no avail. I'm about to try that touch recovery mentioned by CafeKampuchia earlier, but it's taking forever to download - or, for that matter, even start downloading (based purely on today's experience, people need to stop using goo.im).
