I have a Samsung Nexus S, unlocked for Wind Mobile. I'm using this in Canada

1.) Model Number: Nexus S
2.) Firmware Version ?
3.) Baseband Version: 19020XXKL1
4.) Kernel Version: 3.0.8-g6656123 android-build@vpbs1 #1
5.) Build Number: IMM76D

I recently bought this off Craigs List... not sure whether it was rooted or not (don't know how to find out).

Anyway, I received the JB OTA update today, downloaded it, and when I clicked reboot and install, a little standing green android with a yellow exclamation mark appeared :( and it stayed like that for a very long time. I ended up having to pull the battery out.

When I restarted the phone it was still on ICS 4.0.4. I then tried to update a few more times with the same problem.

At the moment, I downloaded the Jelly Bean and clicked "Install Later" until I can figure this out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Your phone is likely rooted and/or bootloader unlocked, so the update won't work as it detects a non-stock configuration.

You can either try to lock the bootloader and unroot, or simply download the JB v4.1.1 update and install it via the recovery menu. It will remove root and lock the boatloader when it installs, and should work fine. Here's the link to the download which you can rename to "update.zip" and install the full update manually:

Here's the smaller update from v4.0.4 to v4.1.1:

If you don't know how to use recovery, google for it as there are lots of resouces that instruct on how to access and use it.
