All pre paid services are like this. It comes with the territory of being pre paid. You cant have your cake and eat it too. It's not false advertising because the 4G is on the 4G network. Just because the speeds aren't up to par with standard 4G, doesn't mean it should be labled 3G. 4G and 3G are different networks so it's not false advertising. 4G can have speeds similar to that of 1X but STILL be labled as 4G because it's on the 4G network. So why would I complain about that? I can't complain about an already great and cheap service. To boycot, petition and complain about that is like little Veruca Salt wanting a "Golden Goose NOW"!!!!!

Regardless, I pay $40 a month, which is about half of what the top 4 providers charge and that doesn't even include "unlimited calls or text" with them. So for me to complain that I'm not getting the same service that is offered for double the price elsewhere, would be selfish, ignorant and "spoiled" of me.

For $40 a month on a PRE PAID service, I expect to get my moneys worth. Unlimited Calls, Unlimted Text, Unlimited Long Distance, Unlimited 4G with 100MB of "streaming" data alloted for the month..................

I would say that is WELL WROTH my $40 I pay a month.

In the end, if you don't like them, your not bound by them. (Oh yeah, another perk.) So you can leave anytime you want to and go pay that $80 a month for faster 4G, 900 minutes a month, 2GB of Data and unlimited text ALL bound by a 2 year contract. Yeah......................you can have that. ;)

It's like getting a "Buy 1 get 1 free" coupon and complaining to the business of said coupon that it's not "buy 1 get 2 free".

Or calling Burger King and bitching cause their "King Size" on a combo isn't big enough.

haha I figured that..but its even better a deal @ 250mb , which makes your point :p

My data usage never moves. Never. Watching videos on YouTube or listening to pandora which would be considered streaming, never takes away from my usage. If i were to move to the 250 it would be gone in a week judging by my data usage app. The new plans are in no way shape or form better than the old plans for that reason right there. All that extra garbage that comes with those higher plans is all useless to me, which is why i went to the $40 plan in the first place. Luckily i made the switch before the "new"plans went into affect.

I give metro an A for effort on trying to get me to switch though. Lol. Saying "you will have more data to use blah blah blah". I said check my usage meter and tell me if i need more data. Lol Morons.

I dunno... people (like myself) hear "4G" and expect 4G... especially when it's promised, and I pay for that service, and expect to get what I paid for - not 3G or 1X. I didn't sign up for that. lol
I think it IS false advertisement.

Case in point - I advertise a Porsche for sale in the paper, and some guy bought it. He drives it home, and is disappointed by it's lack of performance.
After he gets home, he lifts the hood and finds that it's NOT a Porsche, but a fiberglass kitcar built on a VW.
He brings it back, and I tell him to eat his buyer's remorse. "Sorry pal"

Am I guilty of false advertisement? I think so, and I'm sure anyone else would too. How is what Metro is doing any different from that scenario?
They promise 4G, and yet they don't deliver 4G - it's 3G speed at best for most of us. You don't find that out until you buy the service.

Granted, it IS on a 4G network... but I expected 4G to be 4G... not 3G on a 4G network. (if ya know what I mean)
Of course, some will say that I'm just picking fly crap out of pepper, but still... I know I can't be the only one that feels this way about it.

You make some good points Fuzz... and I agree with you on most of them - but I still say we should get what we paid for, and I didn't pay for 3G speeds.
I was told by Metro that it was 4G that I'd be getting if I bought that plan.

And so, I call BS on Metro.

Good points.

But. There's always a but right? Lol

There's no "standard" for what 4G speeds are supposed to be. You can't base it of the top 4 because they are all different. You can't base it on the top 3 pre paid companies because they are all different.

So without a standard you can't say this 4G isn't fast enough. Well fast enough compared to what? To the companies mentioned earlier that will cost you double every month?

Want to know what REAL false advertising is? This is where your Porsche analogy would work.
ATT iphone 4s has the 4g data icon instead of the 3g icon, leading one to believe that their iphone has 4g when in reality it doesn't. ATT says that it operates on the 4g network. How so when the actual phone isn't 4g capable? That is false advertising ;)

But i go back to "if you don't like it, drop it". Im not saying that in a rude way mind you, just saying it in general. Luckily we don't have that ugly contact over our head and we can walk when we want to :D

You get what you pay for and i for one am very happy with what i get with what i pay.

I wish I could feel that way.
But not everyone gets the same speeds... it differs from area to area. In my neck of the woods, it is BARELY faster than 1x.

25% of the time is it even close to 3G speeds.
I have the $60 plan, and yet 75% of the time, I get the same speed that many do on 1X. It's great that you're happy with your service... but false advertisement is NOT cool for a business to get away with. It hurts us ALL in the end - especially if they continue to get away with it.

This now is a whole different story. I get 1.5mb at my house. If i get into Atlanta which is 10 miles away or so, it jumps up to 5.0 plus.

So while i do agree that the speeds aren't "normal"when compared to the top 4, the coverage and location has a great impact on that.

But I'll be honest. When i got the galaxy indulge back in December ish, my house was literally on the 4g line from which i didn't get 4g until i drove about 2 miles into the 4g coverage area. My work was way outside the coverage area so i was in 1x ALL the time. January they expanded the lines and not only did i start getting 4g at my house, i also started getting it at my work. I was extremely happy to say the least. I then bought the esteem and I've been happier than a fat pig in a mud puddle in the middle of summer.

So i do get your frustration. But if you really wanted faster speeds, wouldn't you already have switched to one of the top 4? Like i said, to me it's all about what i get for what i pay compared to the greedy corporate top 4. And to me, it's well beyond worth it :D

Loving that 60 ain't you haha.

Damn you killed two birds one stone. Got rid of crapple and a high ass phone bill lol
lol...yes..i did love my crapple only because most of my friends had one...now its just an expensive ipod or a great way to keep my son busy when we are out and about so poor birds killed a lot of them by coming back to metro lol

Good point. The now $40 4G plan is still unlimited web at 4G speeds up to 250 MB, which includes streaming multimedia, surfing at approximately 5 pages of web, 1 full track download. After the 250 MB cap, you'll still have unlimited web at "reduced" 4G speeds. That's good that you're grandfathered in cus your plan is unlimited data at 4G speeds all the way and you're only counted for streaming at 100 MB.

cellphone service quality is like housing prices.

location, location, location.
Exactly.
Depending on location, all of the other major carriers have spots with even worse service...at much higher prices to boot.

Now, the direction of our wrath should be directed at our big government for not following Europe and Asia's lead re controlling broadband and cellular--
these should've been classified as essential...like utilities...that all must have(at sufficiently high levels to ensure we kept our former worldwide educational & technological advantages).

And for permitting 'everyone to use false advertising and/or steal'.

From the backdating of options for company insiders,
to the financing of a retirement account/vehicle/credit card/ simple bank account,
to the way public sector employees get to calculate their yearly retirement pension: pad their very last year of work with insane overtime & add to it all everyday expenses / kitty cash + unused yearly sick time of as much as 1to2 months a year to come up with an insane yearly guaranteed package of tens of millions dollars(given expected length of life expectations).

it's like it's ok for all businesses to lie, cheat and steal-- with almost zero repercussions...but let them catch a lone employee embezzling thousands, and they'll spend millions to prosecute and incarcerate--spending ten times on the penal system as on the educational system...
and why wasn't i lucky enough to be seduced by one of my teachers:mad:

ehh, life sucks and then you die....
