Coolest feature you've found?

Well considering my phone fell between, fairly softly, between my desk and wall and got a scratch it almost has to be a troll or someone who hasnt really dropped their phone.

Why should I wear seat belts? I've been driving for years and I've never needed them. I even bumped into another car in a parking lot and I didn't need the seat belts. I hate the feeling of seat belts. They feel AWFUL and completely ruin the feeling of the car. Besides, my car has airbags...Probably not a troll. But this analogy pretty much perfectly parallels the argument against screen protectors, other than with the cost of being wrong, of course.

Honestly, I don't care if someone doesn't want to use a screen protector. But there are obviously people who read this forum who know nothing about their phone's screen and might actually believe people who say you don't need a screen protector. So that's why I counter those claims with the truth that many, many reasonably careful people have scratched their screens on accident.

Think about it, if you could use the shortcut from your security screen, then anyone could do the same. So say you put your phone down and I take it, I now know how to go in using the camera shortcut and bypass your security code.

i think ive already mentioned this (forgive me if it was in a different thread) but my girlfriends razr had a lockscreen where you could just access the camera but not the rest of the phone. that isnt too big of a deal is it? i mean, unless the person was taking pictures of a top secret military installation, or up a minor's skirt...

I'm careful. I don't use screen protectors. You can quite easily scratch your glass if you drop the phone from waist / pocket height. The only scratches on my 2 year old HTC desire screen are where exactly that happened. On Concrete and tarmac (done both).

I did occasionally accidentally put it in a pocket that had coins in it but it had no effect. Nor have the countless drops from the arm of the sofa to the floor boards.

Screen protectors are really for phones that don't have gorilla glass. That said, don't use one at your own risk. I'm confident enough myself to know that I don't need one. I've seen the videos and I've done my own tests (by that I mean I owned a gorilla glass device for 2 years).

By no means would I recommend not buying a screen protector but I also would not recommend buying one.

My conclusion. If you feel you need one, buy one. If not, don't.

I read your post after I had already posted. That would be cool, as I haven't seen that on a phone before, I am not sure how your gf's worked.....would you be able to edit and delete or share pictures from this setting? And if so, that would still pose a security issue (for those of us worried about someone taking their phones) because wouldn't they also have access to the gallery?

My favorite feature of this phone?? This thread...semi serious, this thread has shown me a lot about this phone that I didn't know.

So far, I love the notification area and being able to remove one at a time. I love having driving mode. How fast it is. Best of all is being able to get apps like google chrome that weren't available on my old droid. I love being able to disable apps, really didn't like bloatware apps that had permissions. I like being able to hide apps that I can't disable (this is good enough for the few I can't disable).

Beautiful screen.

Looking forward to learnng about nfc next. Speaking of which, I could have swore someone posted about NFC in this thread. Just skimmed through entire thread and can't find the link to what do you use your NFC for (same person that posted the link posted about how one type of tag was better than the other). I did try a search, but NFC was too short a term.....if any of you kind souls run across it, kindly point me in the right diretion.

not sure about that. i dont think i can test it anymore either, since she got upped to ICS, and i think it took away that functionality.

I finally took a moment to put on headphones and go through the personal call equalization process. Who knew the S3 includes a free hearing test? The phone will test each ear with a range of tones at various volumes and frequencies and produce a custom equalization curve for each ear. You can then apply the appropriate curve based on which ear you use most often while talking on the phone. Very cool!

And as I suspected, my hearing in my right ear is worse than my left, especially at the high end. I wonder if the Jelly Bean update will extend this to include a Google Now card for local hearing aid services...

Wonder if this really improves sound in reality, but it's a very cool feature. Can't imagine more than a tiny percent of users has found it though.

Not so much as a tip because it falls under AllShare.... BUT it's something weird for those to use who have a TV connected to the WiFi:-
Send a video message to your loved one!

E.G. ~ I was in the garage attic to the side of the my house and needed to speak with my wife.
Getting out of the attic and going directly to my house to find my wife would have been both difficult and time consuming.
I called to my wife but knew she would not hear me.
However, I did know she was watching TV which was connected to our home Wifi system.
So....... I picked up my S3, made a brief video asking her to come out and see me, then using the Video Player App I sent the video DIRECT to the TV.

The look on my wife's face when she came out to me was priceless and I was thoroughly chuffed to bits. :)

Just discovered my new favorite feature. I usually use Amazon player for music, because all my music is there. Just discovered that on the music player that is stock for the phone will make ringtones for you. If you are listening to a song, and have it selected, click settings, set as, ringtone (you can set it as a specific caller ringtone or alarm tone as well). No more purchasing ringtones for me. Dropkick Murphys!!!!

I called my wife from my S3 while she was outside at a pool. She was listening to music on a high quality pair of headphones I'd gotten for her with an MP3 player a while back. The phone paused her music, allowed her to answer the call, hear me, and then speak into the phone mic.

On my DX if I ever took a call with regular earbuds, I'd have to disconnect the headphones in order to speak on the phone, then take an earbud out in order to hear. I know Samsung provided a pair of earbuds that are really nice, but my wife really liked her own set.

Later when I got to the pool, I was using the Kindle app and was reading in the sun. On my DX, I could read up until the temperature got up to about 120 degrees Fahrenheit and it would reset. I continued reading and checking the temperature and the phone maxed out at 132 degrees. It never reset like my old DX would have. I'm going to be in he Caribbean on vacation shortly, and will read off of my S3 instead of taking a Kindle along, and now I'll be able to read in direct sunlight instead of having to run for shade before the phone reboots like I did with my DX.

I love the new lock screen! It replaces it with a meeting reminder when you get one!

I'm not sure how you do this? can you please elaborate?:)

Yes its really, easy. Open the calendar and set yourself a reminder. Done.

I know I saw it somewhere, but for the life of me I can't find it now! Can't the notification bar at the top of the screen be customized with toggles that you want instead of just stock? I would like to replace airplane mode with driving mode. And yes, I did read all 8 pages of this thread before asking! :D

It CAN be done, but to use the configurable modification called "15 toggles", you have to be rooted.
