Help Will the live wallpaper drain my battery?

I don't think it will drain it much unless you stare at your home screen for hours on end. It only really uses CPU when you are using the launcher, when it is doing its stuff behind your icons. And if you do stare at your home screen for hours on end, marveling at your live wallpaper, the screen itself will suck your battery to such a larger extent that the juice used by the wallpaper will be relatively negligible.

Basically, if you have an app open, the wallpaper is not running the cpu.

Besides, it makes your phone look cool when you turn it on. Enjoy it in small doses :)

It really all depends on what ur definition of "drain" is.. will it use more battery than a standard wallpaper? Of course. But will it eat up enough battery on a phone like this with a great battery that you'll have to consciously minimize usage in other areas to not notice a difference? No..

Im currently using the jelly bean live wallpaper and I go on with my day using the phone and I can't really say I even notice a difference. But it also depends on one's settings and how often the phone is on, etc etc.. I have my screen timeout at 2minutes and I honestly haven't thought twice about it. So I wouldn't worry about it and use the wallpaper that makes u happy!

Thanks dude, this is my first time I see or touch an Android phone and am loving it! It makes me feel like using my BlackBerry 9900 (so called flagship phone) was as if I was using a bicycle when we have super cars available!

I will use my bubbles wallpapers as I enjoy it (even though I'm 28) :p

I haven't even tested the battery so let's see the phone auto shuts ths creen ins 30 secs anyway so I dont think it'll matter much

Right on bro! Believe me, I'm little older than u and I get geeked out about this stuff too lol.
All good, glad u are enjoying the device. It's a good one! I think as u cycle the battery more and start using it a lIttle more normally (less customizing and messing with settings etc) once u are settled in with it, u''ll realize how good the battery is on this phone and probably not worry about it much.

Good luck.

Whatever it is, it will be better than my 9900 BlackBerry battery by miles.

Here is what RIM did, they usually had their Bold line of phones as the flagship phones which had 1550 mAH battery which made the phone easily last you for 1.5 or 2 days with moderate usage..

next, in August last year, they released the 9900 which has a much bigger screen, and a faster CPU (1200 Mhz. vs the older Bolds which only had a 600 Mhz. processor) BUT rather than putting in a bigger battery, they actually put a smaller 1245 mAH battery so people were thinking what the heck are they thinking this phone won't last half a day?!

RIM's reply was that the 9900 has smat power management which will make the battery last long than the old Bolds even though it has a smaller capacity! I looked at that and went like.... :rolleyes:that is physically and logically imporssible! and I was right, the phone will not last more than 4 to 5 hours if you really use the heck out of it! yeah if you put it on the desk and not touch it it might get your through 24 hours if you were lucky but nothing more

all the OS upgrades RIM brought while the may have improved the battery life a tad, it was nowhere near a BOLD phone!

Add to that the crappy continous focus rather than auto focus 5 mp camera they put, which makes the older Bolds with only a 3.2 mp camera autofocus lens take wayy better and crisper looking pics....

add to that, the worst apps you can ever imagine

Example: Email ++ - the features app of the month
Description: it will enable you to edit an email before forwarding it because blackberry ususally doesnt allow you to touch and email you want to forward or edit anything, you send it as is.... seriously? you have to buy an app (which drains the battery like hell btw) to get some basic work done

I got sick, upgraded to the S3 after a lot of research and I am blown away by the intuitive android OS, speed, graphics, everything! and i was so scared to get a touch screen phone but this device make the learning curve on touch screens very easy!

I agree!

Some people get so hung up on battery drain that they neuter their phones and also hesitate to use them for fear that the battery will drain. So congrats......you just made it through the day and your battery is at 79% when it might have been at 62% otherwise. And you successfully avoided using and enjoying your phone.

I do have a special trick for eliminating battery drain. Right key (hold down), then "Power Off". Works wonders. If you leave the phone powered off all day, when you get home at night and power it on, you should still be very close to 100% battery! It's amazing, really. Even more amazing is that if you power it off on a SUNDAY, and then don't pick up the phone until the following SATURDAY, you'll go the whole week without having to charge the phone.

[the above is meant in jest of course and not an attack on the OP because his question was a fair one......I just laugh at all of us, myself included, for micro-analyzing battery use on every little thing]:D

I have the 9900 too for work email and I still am an addict for that awesome physical keyboard though. The keyboard on the 9900 is the best yet, IMO. I wouldn't want a keyboard on my GS3 of course, but for banging out work emails without having to use predictive text and lots of backspaces I still like the BB!
