Help Issues/comments after installing ICS? Discuss/post here

did antutu and quadrant standard test and my score dropped from 2700-2900 to 1800-2100 rofl much?
if u set data limit and do restrict background data this will prevent stuff like youtube from actually working and will not stop current other apps that connect to google play and such as normal to not connect, seems like they did everything opposite as gingerbread
overall everything seems really slow and sluggish, even when i go to sprint zone i cant even scroll up and down the page because its so laggy and slow

Hello everyone.
I have an HTC EVO 3d, which is currently running on the ics update. Before I updated the software a few weeks ago, my screen would light up every time I received a messagem. After the update, it no longer does that. I'm not sure if the change is actually something that's part of the upgrade or if it is a personal phone issue, but i was wondering if there is any way to turn this setting back on? Often I miss messages because of the setting and would really love to have it back.
Thanks bunches!

I doubt this has anything to do with the update, but the 4G signal is WAYY stronger now that it has updated...I've always had 4G service since I got the phone (the day it came out) but now it almost never drops from 4G service and the speed is ALOT faster.

But like some people have said...my battery does seem to drain quicker now

I just upgraded to 4.0 and everything seems to be working fine except my text messages. It just says Please Wait..... and thats it. i cant click menu to remove or delete texts or anything....anyone have any info or help on this matter? Thanks much for the help.

That's what mine did. Ended up having to delete a long thread of texts. It would act like it wasn't doing anything, no indication that it was actually deleting anything. Left it plugged in so it wouldn't go to sleep, and eventually it did actually delete the messages. Then everything worked. Didn't have a problem with huge text threads before the update. Once it started working, I haven't had anymore issues with it.

Ok so first I already tried what you said and it DOES NOT actually turn off background data, I can still go into Google Play and I still get app updates, yes there is a icon saying press this button if you would like to turn on background data but in fact doesn't do anything

Interesting, well I'm confused by your posts and I can't really replicate what you have found since I don't have the device. Maybe someone else here with the device can help you verify further if it is functioning correctly or not.

Also with the new software it seems the term 'background data' has changed slightly and maybe so have it's "policies"?

The market has always required background data to be turned on, maybe they coded the new market and ICS to have data access all the time in spite of the background data setting?

Youtube (in browser) works fine for me with background data restricted. Make sure you have Flash and JavaScript turned on in the internet browser settings, In Ice Cream Sandwich there are some new options for the stock browser.

Where did the power saver options go? I really hope they release an update to fix this and the removable apps issue that you have if you did a factory reset. Other than that, I love this update. Phone seems way faster, and I love the new features.

Joe, maybe you could give something like this a quick try. With Ice Cream Sandwich the power options changed/went away. And on the Evo 4G LTE they are "hidden". Google, HTC, or Sprint didn't really implement as many power options for us it appears. Maybe you can find the side door though?

With ics just being 2 days old for us sprint users there will be bugs and maybe they could possibly update us to put that battery saver option in there for us.

In the mean time if your wanting a battery saver option just go on over to the market and pick up a 3rd party battery saver like juice defender or anything like that.

P.S. I'm not looking for them to release that battery saving option like we had with 2.3.4 since I'm running rooted vm leak of ics and there is no battery saving options for me as well

Did the update, and everything appeared to go smoothly, except for one thing. I can no longer open my text messages. I can open the list, and it shows all the threads, but I can't open any of the threads to view the actual messages. It just sits on the screen saying "Loading". At first I thought it was just the particular thread I was opening had too many messages, so I tried opening one from someone who has only sent me a couple of messages, and it won't open those either. I'm really hoping I don't have to wipe out all of my text messages to get this to work. I mean, I guess it isn't THAT big an issue. I did back them up through MyBackup Pro prior to the upgrade, but still, it is annoying.

I had this issue as well. Basically, I kept the app open, and eventually it went away. I'm not exactly sure what it was doing or if it was changing anything, but after about an hour or so, it just disappeared and it hasn't happened again.

Interesting. How many messages did/do you guys have? I wonder if there is a threshold number for when this 'lock up' occurs?

I wonder if letting it sit open lets all the messages "load up"?
Kinda like when you delete a super long thread and it locks up and takes a long time to unload them and delete.
Possibly when you start the update, the system makes a backup of the current messages and commits them to temporary memory to be reloaded into the updated application/system?

Does the Messages application have any changes with the update? Does it look different or have the back up and restore feature like in Sense 4.0?

when i set background data restriction the browser works fine, its the youtube app that refuses to work after u set background restriction, everytime i try to watch a video it says "was unable to locate server" or something like that, and even tho i have background data restriction on i still get updates from tango and other apps constantly, also the phone is sluggish as crap now, none of the screens move smoothly anymore

In my case, the main thread that I believe was causing the problem, was somewhere around 4000 messages.

Since the ICS update, my photos don't show in Gallery or the Gallery widget. Using Astro, I can see that all photos reside in /sdcard/DCIM/100MEDIA -- lots of photos. Other apps (Photoshop, Pixlr) cannot see the photos either.

The only photo that does show is one I shot after noticing the problem. It resides in /sdcard/DCIM/100MEDIA too.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Have you tried removing and reinserting the sd card?

The only had two small issues when upgrading to ICS. One was that my mail icon showed 9 new messages, no matter what I did I could not get them to go away. After playing around I seen that they were reply emails that were saved in the draft section, after I deleted them everything was back to normal. The other issue was that after the update the camera and messaging icons were switched in the lock screen. I had to move them to my background and then switch them. My phone seems to be running fine, I havn't seen a difference in battery life and it seems to be running smooth. I do wish I could get rid of the three different facebook apps they loaded onto the phone though.

My update is working, at first the push notifications stop working, then they came up again, then down and now they are all up again. But my real worry is that my Lockscreen Sound is almost gone, is too low, I've check the system volume and set to MAX and still is too low, and only that sound all others is kinda loud (like in-call numbers, keyboard keys, touch feedback).

Have you tried uninstalling Pandora and re installing it ??

As for the link, I am not sure, but that might also be part of the Apple lawsuit, I will have to check mine when I get an email with an email too see and I will let you know.

After doing the update a few things that annoy me just a little...

My Pandora is not working via the phone.

The button where I could click on to see my notification does not work the same.

And when I get an email with a link, I can not click on it anymore..

Did anyone else notice that switching between apps via the notification shade doesn't resume the app from where it left off anymore? Try opening a message in Gmail, then going to your Internet app, then back to Gmail (via the notification pull down). It takes me back to the messages overview instead of the message I was just looking at. Returning to the app via long pressing home works as expected, however, so its not an issue of Android clearing the app from memory.

Hey guys,

I have an evo 3d and it downloads the ICS update over the air; however, when I try to install it, the phone reboots and goes straight to the hboot screen. It's not frozen, doesn't go into recovery, and I only have the options to reboot or factory reset. Since this phone was purchased used, I'm not sure if anything was done to it. Thinking that it may be an issue with the recovery, I then downloaded it from htcdev (the RUU file) and ran it. I noticed the phone did not get wiped, as is warned on the website, and there was no difference. The phone isn't rooted but at this point I'm not sure how I can install this update. I want ICS and I'd rather go this route. Any ideas?
