Im wondering if the Nexus 7 has a FM radio built in. I haven't seen it in the specs anywhere so I was wondering. I was planning a project for this tablet to replace my CD/DVD deck in my car's dash and not having a radio would really hamper that. I have to listen to my local morning radio shows!

Also, i have read plenty of posts made flaming FM radios in phones but honestly i love having one and use it all the time. Also, with no cell radios apps like Tune In or Pandora arent an option if I plan to use this in a car.

Any ideas if this tab doesnt have a FM radio antennae built in?

Thanks for any responses~

As far as i know the Nexus 7 does not have an fm radio antenna built in. There have been a couple of posts (probably buried away now) where people have opened up the device and pulled it all apart to find out whats in it. Also no mention in any spec sheet i have seen. I think you might have to find another device to do the job you want sorry.

If you would have sound coming from the car's speaker system, why wouldn't TuneIn and or Pandora not work?

I'm just curious to know.

Thnx.

Sorry, doesnt sound like I explained it well enough after reading it... The Nexus 7 would be an in-dash replacement for my CD/DVD player in my dash. My intentions were to have the N-7 play through an amp, and then throughout the cars speakers (via headphone jack). Since the N-7 doesnt have 3g/4g radios in it, apps like the ones mentioned are useless on the road unless i wanted to tether my phone.
Thus, this is why I would need FM radio in the N-7.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated as I continue to investigate a way to make this work. Im sure there are easier ways, but I am the guy who loves coming up with projects and making them work.

I have an FM radio in my Nokia 5800 phone but one thing to keep in mind with the N7 in your car is that it is not designed to operate in that harsh environment. The temperature extremes in the car are very tough on electronics and they have to be designed to withstand the temperature extremes. The dash can get over a 180 degrees on a hot summer day and obviously get pretty cold on a winter night. Something to think about should you forget your N7 in the car.

Hmm, my car is always at 22C. Don't you have a heater and AC in your car. And obviously you don't put the N7 on the dash.

He means if you left the N7 in the car, while it wasn't on. Temperature extremes are absolutely awful on the battery if nothing else. I'm assuming the the N7 isn't a permanent install, and can be removed at any time though.
