The first article was hardly even a year old.
The second serves to a point; that Apple's locked-down system doesn't work like they want; instead of users getting a bunch of useful updates straight from their manufacturer, there are a bunch of undocumented exploits out there because Apple refuses to let their users build upon their system.
And sure, any system CAN be broken into, but if it's a choice between Linux where there are practically no reports of malware and security compromises and Windows/OS X where undocumented exploits run rampant, it's clear which one is the better system.
