Help Another Rooting Question?

So I'm considering rooting my G1. I purchased it in Feb 2009 and like the operations other than the memory management. Rooting seems like the only way for better performance. I have the latest US update (1.5).

My question is: Which is the best way to root? The "one click" method or the more tedious method taken about an hour? Are there different downsides to both or is one just better than the other?

You should take the method that fits your talents ... The end result is to be rooted ... and as long as you get there without bricking your phone ...then Success!!! The longer more detail guides try to cover all the steps and files in one place and have worked for many of us since the beginning days of the G1.

The 1 Click sounds inviting and easy ... (have not personally tried it) but if you think it is for you ... go for it ...

Rooted is only the First step... the Real Fun is all the possibilities of the Builds that exist for customizing your phone and the way the best features from many models can be merged into your amazing G1 phone...

After rooting I want to move my apps to the SD card. From researching for the correct partitioning of the card I've come up with the following:

SD= 7948
Linux Swap = 96mb
Ext2 (ext3) = 512mb
balance = fat32

Do I need to have the SD formatted and partitioned before proceeding with the rooting or only when I intend to move my apps? Does this make sense and does it matter whether I format in Ext2 or Ext3? I will probably be using Cyanogen's latest Rom.

If you want the apps2SD at the same time as you flash Cyanogen's ROM then you want the SDcard partitioned and formated before doing the flash ... Cyanogen default's to ext3 so it is best to partition to that ...

If you don't want the automated apps2sd ... then just dont have an ext partition on the SDCARD... (you can add it at a later time) ....
