Keep family's schedule in sync

Hello folks,

I would like to keep our family's schedule in sync on my and DW's phone, preferably using Google Calendar. Anybody knows how I can do it best.

There is app for similar functionality, called as Cozi Family Organizer but it doesn't sync with Google Calendar. I am just worried about such services that may turn off free feature anytime and all my data will be lost. Hence, looking for Google Calendar option.

(Setting up a new gmail account for family is not an option because we don't want to keep signed in with gmail account where we don't get any of our emails.)

I think you could share your calendars between each other thereby making them visible to and editable to each other. I haven't tested it myself, I'll try tonight.

Simple to do. Add your family member's Google calendars to yours. They will sync to your phone. You can then display them as you want - all merged together, only some merged or individually.

I'll definitely have to check that out. I am looking for a Cozy replacement too. Especially as Calendar will integrate with Google Now.

You can choose different colours for each calender you add. Has a nice widget too.

Yes. Once you create the calendar in your gmail acct. you can choose the color for that calendar.

Correct. It will not show the different colors in the monthly view, but in the agenda, etc views, they are color coded.

I have 9 different calendars that I keep track of. I have them to all show at once on my Atrix 4G. (I can narrow it down and only show specific calendars too.) Its a really great feature and easy to share the calendars. Make sure you have each calendar to sync, within the calendar app. If not, they won't show up on your phone. One last thing,on my phone, I can't create new calendars, I have to create them on my desktop computer.

Here the issue is not only calendars of both of us but includes a schedule of our 4 years old too and I am not too sure how can I keep one color for his schedule, if we share the calendars.

Shhh. I set up a gmail account for my five year old for his N7. So now I am planning on keeping his schedule in his own calendar.

I have a calender set up in Gmail for my business appointments, my wife has one for her business appointments, my daughter has one for her school stuff, my son has one for his school stuff and we have a family calendar. All but the family calendar are in their own gmail account, but all are shared with read only priveleges to everyone but the owner. The family calendar is set up in my gmail account and is shared with full privileges to everyone. Each calendar has its own color and when they show up on my phone in Pocket Informant the colors translate and its easy to see what is what. My wife uses the stock calendar app and I think she see the correct colors also. I'm not sure what the kids use; I let them manage their own stuff. My daughter probably uses stock, but I'm sure my son has download 150 different ones just to play.

Anyway, it works wonderfully. If one of us has something that will affect the whole family, we put it on the shared calendar and everybody knows about it.

I've seen complaints (seems mostly from Blackberry or Outlook users) that Google calendar is trash. But I think this thread shows just how flexible and capable it really is if you just know how to use it.

I have been using Google Calendar for a few years now, and just a few months ago figured out how to create the different calendars. It is really easy to use and a great feature in keeping up with multiple calendars. (I don't even know how I even kept up with all these dates before I got my smartphone.) The other thing that I like about Google cal. is that you can set a notification reminder for all of your dates. (Great reminder tool.)

Okay all of you Google Calendar gurus...

I've been using my Google Calendar for a long while now ... I keep my whole family schedule on it and "invite" my husband via his work (Outlook) calendar so he's updated ... theoretically he does the same. My kids are teens and in travel sports ... it's a rare day when nothing is scheduled! Also, my mom has a link to it so she knows what we're up to and when she can fit herself in (sad but true...saves a lot of time avoiding the "does this day work?" questions)

My question:
My son's hockey team has their schedule on their website and has provided iCal links (one specifically for Google). I have imported it on the PC successfully and chose to make it "public". These entries don't show up on my phone.

Thoughts?

I've started manually entering all the dates already (as per usual), but it would be nice to have my calendar update automatically with the web site!

It's not "my" calendar to choose ... I import the iCal URL link to my desktop Google Calendar; it shows up in my calendar but it's not *part* of my calendar. I guess kind of like a transparency if, you remember those. It doesn't show up on my device, isn't available to pick. And worse ... my mom can't see it when looking through her link on her desktop.

Going this route is a no-go ... I guess I just have to manually input all the dates as per usual. :-/

iCal links specifically for Google? You should subscribe to it to get it to show on your phone. Go to Google Calendar on your desktop browser, go to settings>calendar tab>click on "browse other interesting calendars." On the right hand side, select "add by URL".

EDIT: wait, I think that's what you already did.

Have you checked if it's checked in the Google Calendar settings to "show on my calendar".

Also, even if its a subscribed calendar, and not yours, it will show up in your phone under apps>calendar>menu>settings>calendars and put a check there. I have several calendars I subscribed to that are showing up there, even if they are made and maintained by other people.
