I was right there with you, holding onto 1.5...not jumping on the first leaks (or the leaks that followed), using restraint when the rooted ROM was discovered, being patient when Bob's-uncle's-friend-who-worked-at-a-VZW-store-last-year said that the OTA was imminent, not salivating over the latest apps that were 1.6+ only...
...until yesterday, when a bout of spontaneity came over me and I rooted to the latest 2.1 ROM. I'm enjoying it, but honestly, if I never got an update, I would still love this phone. I was at my local Verizon store on launch day, and I went in thinking I was getting a Droid. After spending a few minutes with the Eris, I was sold. It was exactly what I needed, nothing I didn't, and I saved $100 (being young and newly married, $100 is a fortune) by not going with the phone backed by an ad campaign. There's not much that feels better than being completely happy with the decision you made.
