Some links to help you to ICS Now with .246 FXZ (updated 10/23/12)

Did you FXZ back to .905 stock and try to take the update or just restore things as close as possible with TB? if you missed anything that would make the .905 installation you have not bone stock (root only usually okay) it will fail.

I just tried to restore things back. I was hoping to upgrade to ICS without wiping settings and data. But it's starting to sound like I'll have to FXZ to stock after all. Does this ICS leak even save settings when it installs or does it wipe anyway?

You can FXZ back to stock without listing data if you either use a modified .XML file to skip the data wipe (and internal storage wipe), by manually flashing the required files yourself using moto-fastboot, or by using SamuriHL's House of BIONIC (aka HoB) utility.

All there methods will restore/system to pure stock, untied, and you should be good to go after that.

I recommend HoB, but you have to follow three directions carefully, and read everything, and not skip steps no matter how familiar you are with this phone.

Can I request the OP to add a link to that HOB script for going back to 905 without losing data?

(I know johngalt linked it in another thread, but I honestly can't recall where, and this seems like the best place to consolidate all this info ... for when the happy time comes that ICS goes OTA, and we'll all have to go back to 905 to get it.)

(Even better if there's a link to where someone explains it in small words, as I'm a total newb when it comes to messing with my operating system.)

Can't host this because
1. I don't have permission.
2. to big for the bandwidth I have available.
3. changed to often to keep up with.
Just bookmark the link http://www.droidforums.net/forum/motorola-droid-bionic/214902-downgrade-902-no-app-data-loss.html thanks!:)

I guess I could put the link in the OP but really wouldn't want to do so without SamuriHL's permission because for whatever reason he chooses not to be active on this forum.
If Johnlgalt want's to ask him and PM me that it's okay I'll add the link to his thread @ droidforums.

I've thought about this but HouseOfBionic has pretty much morphed into a way to move up from the locked .235 and .238 builds to the next higher version, and is really no longer about going back to .905 with no data loss so it doesn't really fit here.

This was about posting more links to the tools to help people try ICS up to .232 and still be able to get back to the fully stock .905 upgrade path, so I'm going to leave the OP as is. Thanks for understanding :)

I totally understand.

And I'm totally grateful for all the links you have provided -- you're certainly under no obligation to do anything more for any of us.

.... that said, here's where I'm sitting: I've flashed to .232 and did so without considering the possibility that getting back to .905 wouldn't be as easy as getting to .232 was.

I see where you've included RSDLite and the full .905, and dfib has conveniently linked to a post as to how one would use these things to get one's Bionic back to .905, so that's good to go.

... although, again, with my own personal level of stoopid, I had not considered that coming back would lose all my data (which isn't on the SD card). (Not that I wouldn't have pulled the trigger on .232 anyway -- the data drops were making me desperate.) In any event, reading that HoB (at least, at one time) had a way of going back without losing data made me think that, yeah, that would be ideal. (Reading the HoB link now makes me think that, yeah, it's morphed into something else and isn't really for me.)

At this point, I'm pretty much weighing the options of (a) data loss versus (b) just staying on .232 until my contract expires. I mean, just how much better is the actual release of ICS going to be?

[rant]And why do they have to make it so damn difficult to go back anyway? And what's up with apps that don't save data to your SD card?[/rant]

you cant remove them before.

I did remove them. I had to extract the file while it was on my computer. I removed a file folder (dir) called "preinstall" then zipped it back up. I haven't done anything else with it yet. I don't see anythng that would suggest that doing so would harm the installation - but I admit, I could easily be missing something. Any suggestions?

Hi all!

I am a Bionic user running on 5.9.905 and I have been trying to load the leak all day, but keep receiving the same message, "E:signature verification failed" I have never rooted or tinkered with the device in any way. Does anyone have any suggestions or insights? Thanks very much in advance!!

As several people have posted about signature verification failed messages I have uploaded a new copy of the .232 file, see if it helps.

I tried the new .232 file you loaded a few times and unfortunately, no luck. I received the same E:signature notice again. I am at a loss... Thanks for your help anyway!!!

Are you sure you are using the right file?

I downloaded all four files just for my personal archive. I then moved the rom over to my device and tried to install, only to get a E:signature error.

After some confusion I realized I was using the 905 installer (4th link) and not the 232 installer (1st link). Once I used the 232 installer, everything went fine.

An easy way to tell the difference is the 232 installer is 300+ mb and the 905 installer is 600+ mb.

Hopefully you just had a brain fart like I did. The file names are slightly confusing I guess.

Edit: Also... make sure that you are NOT plugged in by USB, even to an outlet. You will get mounting error. So ensure that you are fully charged and shut down without the device plugged in.

I just checked and I'm using the the zip file (when I download the file provided above I had to compress it so that I would be able to use it) called "Blur_Version" and it's 348.6 MB. I just tried again and got the same message. I believe I am following all of the steps correctly too, but there's always a chance that I'm not. So frustrating!!!!!!

If you have any other tips, tricks or otherwise, I'm definitely interested. Thanks!

You had to compress it? No, it comes as a .ZIP file that is already compressed.

Sounds like your OS or browser is automatically DEcompressing it got you, and you should set it so it does not automatically do so.

I did have to compress it, but based upon your response, I changed that feature on my MacBook, downloaded the file again, put it on my SD card, gave it another shot. The upload seems to have worked. The phone is pretty sluggish at the moment and seems like it is trying to reorient itself, but it looks like ICS!

Thank you so much for your help!!!!
