Thinking about Nexus

Hey guys and gals,
I am currently an iPhone 3g user and have been an iPhone user since the original. It has been almost 3 years on this OS and I feel like I am done being tied down to it. There are things I love about it and things I hate, but have not been able to pull myself away from it.
I have been doing a lot of research on Android and specifically the Nexus or Desire and I am really tempted to make the switch. I really liked the Desire over the Nexus because of the track pad and small change in the form factor, but as I continued to do research, the Nexus started to call on the geek inside of me. I have now settled on wanting the Nexus over Desire.
Can any iPhone users tell me of there experience from making the switch? Any regrets or advice? I want to be able to do more with my device but do not want to lose the things I really liked about the iPhone. Any help would be great.

I guess the big question would be what did you do w/ your iphone?

i had a 3g for 1.5 yrs and i've very pleased with the switch. I love the openness of the system, i love being able to change things i couldn't w/ the iphone.

the system is faster/way faster, but is a bit more jerky i guess would be the correct word. the phone is a rocket but the scrolling isn't quite as smooth, which i'm over b/c it really doesn't matter.

i like being able to put stuff on the phone and readily take it off whenever i want. I like not having to use that fatpig itunes.

the call quality is SUBSTANTIALLY better, and the noise reduction works quite well.

the biggest frustration for me has been the keyboard. I could type quite fast w/ the iphone but i remember being frustrated w/ the iphone keyboard as well... so i'm assuming it's a learning curve.

the notifications in android are amazing and easy to use and track. I was shocked at just how good it is. You'll love it.

i've actually started using the trackball a little and the trackball notifications are pretty cool. I think i figured why they put it in there and it relates to excel functionality. I wasn't able to do anything with that on my iphone, but now i can actually mess w/ excel docs, pretty sweet.

i like the micro usb standard, i like the removable battery, i now have 2 batts and can go almost 4 days b/w them with lower usage.

i like the dock and the clock system. the music beaming is kinda finicky and i haven't used it much yet.

the voice functionality, both google voice, and the speaking program are bitchin!

i love google calendars and i've switched that to my main business calendar from outlook. Basically you fill it out in goog calendar and it beams it to your phone or from your phone to the web calendar... it's pretty awesome.

rss readers are sweet

it has shazam/ebay/paypal, all of which i use pretty often. All the apps i used on the iphone are available for andoid.


and the #1 reason is that it doesn't look like i'm screwing around at work when i'm using my phone, and i'm done w/ effing closed system smug apple.

That is a very informed answer A lot of what you said sounds great and is pushing me over the edge. The one big worry I have is the keybaord. I can type very fast on my iPhone and want to be able to carry that over. I used to rely heavily on the itunes app on the phone but have recently stopped since I drive more than public transportation nowadays. I admit though that I am addicted to buying games on the app store but those only last me about 1 day each title. I like the idea of the Android freedom and also I have never been a fan of Apple.

you will have trouble with the keyboard. I guarantee it. It gets better though. I've had my phone for about 3 weeks now and my speed and accuracy is getting better.
