Help why does my nexus show charging icon when not plugged in

Hi does anyone know any solution to why my nexus charging icon is showing when phone is not plugged in .Have tried cleaning out USB port tried new cable and made sure that USB tab is not touching inside port.plus have tried hard reboot ,don't want to reset phone as doesn't think it wil work but will do if you think it will help .

Thanks for any help given.

The USB is knackered .The ports on Nexus i9250 are really bad

Not taking a charge ,Only looking like its charging when the phone is switched off,Not being recognized by the pc or laptop you're plugging into and not transferring data .

Theres 3 answers:

1.
You fix it yourself: If you get something very thin, and very gently lift the centre piece of the port up or down - to centre it inside the port of the phone.
This will probably only work once, and is really only a temporary answer,it will go wrong again for sure, but might allow you to transfer anything important before it packs up again.
Do it too much and the contacts will be knackered within the socket,it's easily done. This however isn't the end of your phone ,you will have to have the port replaced though.

2.
You can take it back to the shop ,or send it off to Samsung .
Ok,you get a new phone or a new port but that will give the same problems as your old one in the end,so not great.

3.
Send off to a repair shop (Searched internet ) Shop was in Sheffield for mine(from memory) Took about 3-4 days ,and now it works ,no problems at all (Its been nearly 3 months ) Repair cost about

I am having the same problem. I have had my phone for about three months and this just started. I have one charging cable that seems to work with the phone, charges it correctly, and when I unplug it the "charging" lightning icon disappears. And the battery seems to be draining quicker.
Does this mean I have to take it in to the dealer?

Hey guys, get this - I sent my phone into Samsung for repair because the USB port was not charging at all (or 9 times out of 10). They "fixed" it, and when I got it back, it charges, but now I have the phantom charging issue. So from about 100% to 80% each day, it alternates between thinking it's charging and not. So the screen comes on constantly, and as someone mentioned, the phone doesn't sleep properly, so the battery life is shortened. I guess they traded it out for another faulty USB port, or they installed it poorly and there's some sort of short. I will probably have to send back to Samsung...so we'll see.

My phone has started doing this recently too. I haven't tried electrical cleaner, but I have attempted to blow it out with compressed air and clean it out with a pin. I can't seem to fix the issue, but I have found a good workaround...

After charging the phone (or having a USB cable attached for syncing) and removing the cable, if the the phone still thinks that it's charging, I simply power it off and remove the battery for a second. Re-insert the battery and power the phone back on... that's it... my phone will no longer be stuck in charging mode. Simply power cycling the phone doesn't work, I have to physically remove the battery for a second.

I had the charging issue for a couple of months and I am not sure that they are all related to a faulty USB port. I have not been using a USB charger for 5-6 months. I use the Samsung docking station (1 at home & 1 at work) and I use the battery charger to keep extra batteries charged and ready to go (always keep one in my pocket for times when I am away from my docks).

This issue appeared out of the blue and continued for a couple of months and then was gone as quickly as it appeared. They only way to get rid of it after pulling it off of the dock was to power off and pull the battery. I went through a bunch of ROMs and even Stock, but none seemed to get rid of or solve the issue. It ended up going away midway through a run of nightlies during CM10, all dirty flashes from one nightly to another. Since then I have been through JellyBelly 10-11 & am now on CM10.1 and have not had any relapses.
