Since this model has been out a while, I'd like to ask the opinions of the users.
If lucky, I will be getting a DX2 as a spare device-not registered as a phone, since my service is with Boost, but something I'll use Wi-Fi only.
Your opinions-go stock or root? And if root, which rom? I've heard the Motorola bloatware kills performance. If I go root, tho, I don't want to have to tinker, or constantly update. Hate to sound like Hamlet, here, but what are the opinions of the experts and users? Thanks.

Go with custom rom cyanogen mod 7 or eclipse. They are the most stable and best roms out right now. Either one will provide great stability and user experience over stock.

Thanks, man. Do they both get rid of motorola's bloatware? And, once installed, can i basically just leave them alone-no other updates or tweaking?

Yes they do. Just flash and done! The only thing you would add is your own apps, themes, launcher, etc. As I stated before I tend to gravitate towards CM7 as there is no form of blur in the software but I have also used Eclipse which is just as good/fast. Eclipse doesn't go as in depth with the settings and customization options. It has a few more things that work in it such as FM radio and HDMI out. With CM7 those 2 features don't work and sometimes Wi-Fi can be a bit wonky but not a huge issue. CM7 has settings that include automatically silencing the phone at night hours and lots of other things that many may find unneccessary such as controlling the notification lights and colors. So ultimately it's up to you but I would tell you to try both and see for yourself.

Great video review of CM7 here. Note the phone is different so some of the features such as overclocking does not work on our phone but this was one of the best videos of CM7.
