Hello.....

I'm looking for some help. I have the HTC Hero and I really have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to rooting or anything like that at all. I'm willing to pay someone for their time for this: I need someone to walk me through the whole process of rooting my phone and then be able to move my downloaded apps onto my SD card.

If someone is interested in helping, please let me know. I'm sure for a lot of you this is a pretty simple thing, but for myself, well...I have two left hands.

Thanks in advance...

Marc

I`m rooted and everything else, just need help with apps to sd..

If you root to the Cyanogen Build 4.0.2 apps2sd will happen automatically for you ...

You will need to have previously flashed the phone with Recovery 1.4

See the Xda-developers forums for directions :

You should have a SDCard that is Class 6 and probably 8GB is the best size to value.. it will need an ext2/3/4 partition of say Approximately 800MB ,,, an the FAT32 partition of the SDCard with be the balance ...

When you say its automatic. Does cyanaogen display anything on boot up, that says "Moving apps to sd card" or something similar?

When I boot, I have no idea if the ext3 partition is recognised or not.

No there is no notice ... but if you had a ext partition set up and the Build finds it to be OK it will automatically move you apps to that partion ...

My version of Cyanogen will let you see the usage statistics of that space ...
Go into your settings and under "SD Card & Phone Storage" .. then scroll down to the area the show "Sd card secondary" that will be the ext partition
.. you will see Total Space and Available space ...

example ' Mine is Total 826MB /// Available is 642MB .. so i am currently using 184MB for 300+ apps

OS X, being a Unix variant, will more than likely have an application called fdisk that can be used for partition management. It is command line based.

BE VERY CAREFUL USING ANY PARTITION MANAGEMENT UTILITY! YOU COULD DESTROY ALL THE DATA ON YOUR HARD DRIVE! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

That being said, you can find the manual page for the Apple fdisk program here: Mac OS X Manual Page For fdisk(8)
