First, I am surprised that this hasn't been discussed yet, but the search function here doesn't give me anything relevant. If it has been discussed, please point me to the right thread and delete this one.

I see that a new Skype will be coming to the Droid's on Verizon's network this Thursday. Apparently it will allow outbound "Skype-Out" calls over the 3G network.

I have a Skype-Out plan and a Skype number I use for my business. With the new Skype app, will calls people make to my Skype number ring the Skype app on my Droid? If so, will this be a huge battery drain if Skype is constantly waiting for incoming calls?

Sorry for the newbie question but can I load Skype onto a Legend or Desire and use it in WiFi places to make calls. Im an Aussie living in China and travel a LOT and this would be a huge advantage and Im about to buy a new phone. Wont be on any plans etc like Verizon.

It Doesn't work over WiFi, at least the Droid version. It only works over 3G.

Actually the iphone app is better, you can use wifi and those with a skype out number can receive calls on it. This verizon app doesnt accept calls if you call the number, you have to call via another skype for it to ring and no wifi. Basically all your calls in the usa will still use your minutes. So basically this is just a stupid convienience app if you use skype to call internationally. Thats only where this app can possible be useful. I guess those of us who travel abroad are screwed again with no wifi to make free calls back home or receive them.

Im not worried about Skype to Skype as most of my family and friends dont use it although that would be handy, just being able to dial my contacts and use Skype's cheap rates of VOIP over Wifi... BTW not in the US or using Verizon...

Is there any alternatives?

I most up this thread.
There's have to be any solution to this gap!!

Iphone has! why shouldnt we have??
