Hey there,

I have the original T-Mobile G1 and am generally fond of it, actually so fond im on the verge of getting myself the HTC Desire when it hits the stores here. There are however a few things that "bug" me at present.

1: Is it possible to install and use programs directly from the memory card, or does programs still have to be installed to memeory with the newest release of Android OS?

2: Isn't it possible to turn of threaded messsaging and revert to the more classic look?. Either directly through the native client or through a 3rd party text messaging client?

3: And what about saving some of your texts?. Cause you know once in a while you recieve a text thats worth saving, and at present I don't seem to be able to find that option in 'Droid. So is that not supported or does that "just" require 3rd party software.

4: And have they finally fixed the forced google sync?. Where you can ONLY get contacts and stuff to your android device through gmail. Because im honestly a bit concerned with the fact that Google "owns" everything on gmail.

Kind Regards,
Flemming Jacobsen

Apps cannot be installed on the memory card.

You might be able to with an app. I have no idea as I've never looked into it.

Not sure what you mean. My contacts are synced from my Exchange account. There's nothing to "fix". You can sync contacts from multiple sources. You still have to have a Google account though.

If you're concerned about Google spying on you then Android probably isn't the best platform to choose. It will always be heavily tied in with Google.

With my G1 I only had the option to sync contacts with google. No support to import from vcf files, no support for exchange and what not.

But its not so much the spying as it is Google TOS im a bit concerned about and their; "We own all you leave on your gmail" attitude. But I find it a bit sad still that they haven't made it possible to save programs and such on your memory card considering that you might end up filling up the regular phone memory sooner or later with programs.

IOWA:

That link actually helped somewhat, apart from not telling me how to actually get root >_>. And im not sure whether or not I will actually be able to root a HTC Desire in hearnest.

But I can live with the fact that "droid" can only really sync directly with Gmail, since I don't have exchange and only has outlook on my PC >_<. Way not to go and support ActiveSync Google :/.

So at present im stuck with Gmail which has its annoying issues should i suddenly decide to switch back to Nokia or SE.

IOWA,

Im not talking about the email klient, but the ENTIRE issue that you HAVE to use Gmail to get your contacts to your phone. You can't even import from vcf files like every other phone can. THAT is my issue :p. Either you sync via gmail or via exchange (but I don't have exchange), or you are shit outta luck unless you want to add each and every contact manually.

Well if you don't like the cloud sync, just sync it through gmail, xfer contacts to your phone, disable gmail sync on your phone, clear your phonebook on gmail.
