Which Android phone with physical keyboard?

I've admitted to myself that I'll never use my Galaxy for GTD'ing because it's just too gorram irritating to type on.

Is it true that the only phones with a physical keyboard are the HTC G1 and the Motorola Droid? Further, the G1 is apparently already hopelessly antique, and even the Droid is very slow compared to the new phones such as the Nexus.

So what's everyone's opinion?

i think the g1 is still kicking, and the droid has a screen that will crack if you look at it too hard.

I'd suggest the cliq if youre in to social networking. otherwise i'd wait for the nexus 1 phone with a keyboard from HTC. i dont remember the name of it though.

Samsung Moment has a physical keyboard as well, and a pretty good one at that, but it's only on Sprint and it's not very "new" compared with the others that are available.

I've heard that HTC is eventually moving to touch keyboards only if they haven't done so already, so the Droid may be your only option. Maybe the Droid's successor.

To the OP: I'd suggest trying out Swype and see if you can cope with it. I personally prefer it over physical keyboards.

As far as I know, Sprint's other Android phone, the HTC Hero, is getting the update to 2.1 at the exact same time as the Moment. This makes me think it's a Sprint thing.

Right.. that's why the moment has had a MR two months after it came out, and were getting 2.1 by the end of this month.

The MR was (mainly) to fix the absolutely awful GPS that wasn't release-ready. It was originally slated for a 2.0 release in Q1. Now it's pushed back to a 2.1 release in Q2. Neither NPS nor Kies work with any of the Android phones. The Galaxy and Galaxy Spica haven't had any firmware updates, and it hasn't even been announced whether the Galaxy is getting an upgrade past 1.5. And considering the Android that Samsung runs is pretty much the standard version, as opposed to running something like Sense (which I prefer btw), the lack of updates (on a system as new as Android) is a little disappointing

there have 2 different donut firmware releases for the galaxy so far (at least 1 of them leaked tho' afaik) and the spica has been stated to get 2.1 soon (if it hasn't already; i'm not up to date since i don't have one)

Wrong again. 2.0 was scheduled for 1H not 1Q. So they are right on schedule. Id rather wait anen extra week and get 2.1 anyways. And wasn't your complaint lack of updates? Doesn't matter why they updated it, they did.

Please quit posting false information, your taking away your own credibilty, and making yourself look like a trouble maker.

Also keep in mind these companies owe you nothing. Getting a free update, no matter what the time frame, is excellent news. To complain about a gift is just bad form. You bought your phone as is, and were not promised anything. Its like someone conplaining they bought a ps2 and expect a ps3 for free. Childish.

Umm, the samsung moment is just fine, and is faster than the droid, with a better screen.

Faster than the Droid? Just because the Moment has an 800 MHz processor doesn't necessarily mean it's faster. MHz comparisons only work when you look at the exact same processor.

Yes, if I've read a book by author X that I didn't like, the chance that I'll buy a book written by X again is decreased. Conversely, if I loved book Y by author Z, I'll most likely buy the next book from Z. Simples. You are not obliged to give anyone a second chance when there is an abundance of other choices. You, as a paying customer, have every right to dismiss a brand, an author, a movie director--whatever--and never buy/watch/etc anything from them ever again because it's your money. Maybe if a certain brand monopolizes that particular market, but such is far from the case with Samsung.

as a fellow galaxy owner, i know what klaymen is talking about and can vouch that iowa and ghost, you guys misunderstood it and are just wrong

the issue is with samsung's customer support, not with their device(s)

to follow ghost's metaphors - i expect my candybar with a dead rat inside it to be replaced by another that hasn't got one, and if when i go to see the band live and they pour beer on me and hit me with a guitar, i'm not gonna buy any more of their cds regardless of how good they are

I'm sorry you feel that way. I suppose it may not matter if I reply or not, but I can't just leave it at that; we can't dismiss one another based on one harsh statement each.

If you spend a while reading the subforum for the Galaxy (the i7500, not the 3 later models), you'll see just how much they've ignored their customers after bringing an obviously beta-quality device to market. I'm not alone in feeling royally screwed by this company.

But I guess I shouldn't have written "I'm not going to let myself be fooled more than once", because I already have been: I also have a Samsung laser printer that ignores half its settings (and there's no word on a firmware update), and a Samsung television where the audio ports are useless because they --by their own admission!-- can't be made to be in sync with the picture.

So it's not just a single occurrence, I've been burned time and again, and this phone was my last electronics purchase. In all fairness, I have bought Samsung products since ... but I figure that CD-R media is too simple to screw up.

Is it? Klaymen's not from Korea, though. Even that aside, when it comes to mobile phones Samsung doesn't monopolize anywhere, I don't believe. See Nokia's global market share.

I gotta side with mrqs that the issue is not the phone as much as it is Samsung's post-sale service.

A more accurate analogy would be if you bought a Toyota, then the accelerator got stuck wide-open, then Toyota simply ignored that there was a problem with the vehicle... Then when they finally did acknowledge it, it was 6 months after the recall should have occurred.

Though, in Samsung's case it was merely a needed OTA or OTW update for the baffling handicaps in the stock firmware, a total recall was not needed. And it STILL took them 4 months to do it.That is 100% Samsung after market, and it's pretty consistent across their various products. Sorry to say, but post-sale service IS a product in itself. And Samsung's is abysmal.

Anyone who says a product should be immediately dismissed shouldn't be taken too seriously.

I don't even do that with Apple, I at least *look* at the product first.
