T-Mobile’s Taking Off The Gloves – Will Introduce New Data Plan That’s Actually Unlimited (Like, For Real)

So. It looks like Tmobile will introduce truly unlimited data [Read: no throttling, no caps, all 4G] for only $10 more a month than the current 2GB plans. I think I'm going to jump on this and try to be grandfathered before this goes away. Anyone else think they'll make the switch?

I get 5GB per month with mine, and never come anywhere close to reaching that cap because I'm always using my WiFi. I can't honestly justify 10 bucks more a month for unlimited.

I'm on Metropcs unlimited plan and may make the switch depending on what the price for it all turns out to be. Metro is getting the galaxy s 3 sometime this year but I if go to tmobile I'll skip the gs3 and wait for the note 2.

That's where I'm at. At first I was being stingy, until I realized that 5gb on a phone is a LOT. I use wifi at home and just browsing here at there at work. I didn't even hit 2gb this month. I use the $30 plan and I just keep $10 extra in my account in case I run out of minutes.

We don't use our 2GB limit per phone now so no big deal. I'm much more concerned with keeping fast unlimited home service, which is why we're getting Google Fiber.

I actually come close to using my 5GB but I do tether.
I have considered going to the 10GB plan.

If I did not tether I don't know if I would jump on it UNLESS.... I heard it was "going away" or something..

Truthfully... 5GB is a lot for just the phone.
I currently use about 4GB a month.

The only reason I would switch is because I use pandora at work about 20+ hours a week. And that gets me close. Plus the 4G is faster than my home internet as well so I won't have to use my slower wifi anymore

Tethering is not allowed with the new unlimited plan. T-Mobile is not that stupid.

I have an unlocked Galaxy Nexus from Google with T-Mobile's $30 prepaid plan. I usually use more than 100 minutes, so end up paying overages of about $10, so $40 total. If I switched to this plan, I'd be paying $55 (i use google voice for texting) and get 500 minutes, and unlimited data. I'd also gain better support, some random features like call-forwarding, maybe free nights and weekends? And unlimited data... although I haven't used my 5GB, this is partly because I'm careful about it KNOWING that there is a limit.

But tethering is a big one for me. I need to be able to use it in rare instances when its necessary. If there is no way to get around their tethering block... that might be a deal breaker.

This is how I looked at this... after some soul searching.
When your at home.. use wifi.

Use your mobile data... when you are mobile....
I found that just simply doing that and having the 5GB/month plan that lets me tether when I am on the road works the best.

I used to be in the "I want to be able to do that" boat but coming from a radio communications background I know that bandwidth over the air is actually somewhat limited.

I have been doing well this way.
It is there when I need it, but I am not downloading all kinds of crazy stuff over cell data.

You'll also get wifi calling when you're on postpaid. and about the tethering... *cough* root *cough*

It's not actually confirmed yet. But as per this "leaked document" it is supposed to start September 5th and there are prices listed.

Don't forget the biggest difference. On the $30 pre-paid plan, it is pre-paid. To get unlimited data, you will be signing a 2-year contract.

In regards to tethering, your $30 plan does not allow for it either. So if the current tethering situation works for you, I'd think it would still work for you on unlimited.

To tether legally, you must purchase a tethering plan. To tether without paying for a plan you can use an app called FoxFi.

I just switched my 4 lines today. I've only been throttled once about a year ago after going over 5gb. I also haven't had a 4G phone on tmobile, but I'm due for an upgrade in less than 2 weeks so I'll have all 4G phones on my family plan soon. I regularly use 7-8gb a month on Sprint. Streaming music and movies really ads up. Between Xfinity, Google Play, and Slacker radio I stream a lot of media.
